Rules Q&A
- Q: Since both the Scout Armor and Daidoji Yaichiro's reactions come after the resolution of an action, could he use his reaction, if straightened by the Scout Armor. after bowing as a cost to perform a battle action?
A: Looks good to me. Alex Jones, "Daidoji Yaichiro with Scout Armor", 28 Sep 2010 - Q: Zen,
I was reading the rulings forum today, and came across http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=65014. I was slightly confused, and just wanted to make certain of it's accuracy, because of this other ruling here: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=65107
From my understanding of the second referenced ruling, Daidoji Yaichiro actully couldn't use his reaction when the Laquered Armor reaction goes off, because he did not perform the action. The Armor sends him home, and since it's not specifically targeting Daidoji Yaichiro in the requirements line, it isn't actually performed by him (it just "happens"). Am I wrong in this?
Edit + Bump: I wanted to explain why I would even bother asking this, as I am still confused, even after referring to the FAQ and the rulebook. The ruling on Daidoji Yaichiro and Laquered Armor seems to be a reversal of the general ruling on actions created by Items and Spells. As far as I can tell from the wording of Laquered Armor, the Personality it's attached to doesn't perform the action, so I'm still highly confused here.
A: Whenever one of your Actions come from an Item or Spell in your Personality's unit, that Personality performs the Action - as noted in the Comprehensive Rules - Glossary P: Perform
The second thread you link to is referencing a different situation - when one of your Actions comes from an Action Card that just happens to target an Item or Spell.
For example:
Tsi Blade has a Reaction. When you use that Reaction, the Personality with the Horsebow is performing the Action.
When you just bow Tsi Blade to pay the cost of Tonfajutsu, however, no Personality is performing the Action. Martin Lund, "Laquered Armor + Daidoji Yaichiro (confirming the ruling)", 4 Feb 2008 - Q: Wouldn't Yaichiro being targeted by Test of Courage make any more actions targeting him kind of moot?
A: Daidoji Yaichiro's action doesn't target. Zen Faulkes, "Daidoji Yaichiro, Lacquered Armor & A Test of Courage", 22 Jan 2008 - Q: I have Lacquered Armor attached to Daidoji Yaichiro. Can I use the ability on Lacquered Armor, then negate moving using A Test of Courage to stay on a battlefield and attach 2F follower to Daidoji Yaichiro using his Reaction?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Daidoji Yaichiro, Lacquered Armor & A Test of Courage", 21 Jan 2008 - Q: You are attacking.
Your Daidoji Yaichiro is at Province A while your opponent's Daigotsu Masami is at Province B. Can you:
1. Resolve Province B first by moving Yaichiro in and then shooting Masami, thereby satisfying presence and location as well as use the exception to the rule?
I separated this from my previous post as the nature of the action is quite different in application.
Many Thanks.
A: Mountains Shadow Dojo says, "Ranged 3 Attack. Move him ..."
Shoot first. Period. Full stop. Move second.
You can, however, use Mountain's Shadow Dojo during a Battle at Battlefield B to target your Crane Clan Samurai at Battlefield A, shoot a subject at Battlefield B, and then move your Crane Clan Samurai to Battlefield B.
Moving your Samurai into the Current Battlefield invokes the Exception to the Rule of Presence by moving a Unit you control into the Current Battlefield.
Moving your Samurai into the Current Battlefield invokes the Exception to the Rule of Location by moving the card you targeted outside of the Current Battlefield (normally illegal under the Rule of Location) into the Current Battlefield.
For more information about the Rule of Presence, Rule of Location, and their Exceptions, look here. Martin Lund, "Mountain's Shadow Dojo Ranged Attack Question", 30 Jul 2007 - Q: You are attacking.
Province A has your Daidoji Yaichiro and an opposing Daigotsu Masami. Province B has no units from either side.
A: First of all, let's just ignore Daidoji Yaichiro's Reaction ability for the moment. It has no impact on the legality of any Battle Action he might perform. I'm going to replace Daidoji Akagi for Yaichiro in all the following questions just so we can keep Mountain's Shadow Dojo distinct from Yaichiro's own movement Reaction, OK?
Can you:
1. Resolve Province B by shooting Masami at province A and then move [Akagi] to Province B?[/quote]
No. Ranged Attack Effects target. You can't target Masami at Battlefield A. Battlefield B is the Current Battlefield and any card in a unit you target with a Battle Action must either be at Battlefield B or have its unit moved into Battlefield B as a result of the Action.
