Rules Q&A
- Q: hiho
what happens if a personality that has Champion of thunder attached is targeted by a unit sendhome action or an action that is only targetting the personality (eg favor, tsuruchi sanjo) and i use the reaction of the Champion of thunder.
Champion of thunder Thunder • Cavalry • Storm Rider Enters play paying 1 less Gold if you are a Mantis Clan player. Reaction: After another player's action targets a card in this unit: Negate the action's effects on this card. Battle: Ranged 6 Attack.
Favor Political Battle: Discard the Imperial Favor: Move a target attacking enemy unit home.
Sanjo Battle: Target a Personality with lower Personal Honor than Sanjo's Chi. Move him home.
I mean a follower cant stay alone at a battlefield or ?
same situation with Daigotsu Xp 3 and Enticement
Daigotsu Battle: Permanently give a target enemy personality with lower Chi Shadowlands. He succumbs to the Dark Lord's will. Take control of him (if you do so, he joins your army). If you now control him, destroy him after this battle ends.
Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
does he control the personality and do i control the follower ? and if so ... can i use the follower to perform a ranged 6 on one of his personalities (would be some kind of mutiny or ? ^^)
A: In both instances, the moving of the Follower or the changing of its control are not effects of the action, but rather effects of the rulebook, based upon the fact it is attached to the affected Personality. Champion of Thunder will negate no part the examples you gave. Brook Cunningham, "Champion of Thunder vs Favor/Daigotsu", 7 Sep 2011 - Q: Since the action of destroying the Personality is technically another player's action... does the Personality targeted by The Last One remain after this battle ends?
A: Yes.

When an action takes effect, card text is read from the perspective of the person who controlled it at the time (see viewtopic.php?f=59&t=81760 and viewtopic.php?f=59&t=79202). Zen Faulkes, "Clarification: The Last One vs. Chi Death, Daigotsu", 10 Aug 2010 - Q: Daigotsu and Furumaro are both at a battlefield and Daigotsu targets Furumaro with his battle ability and takes control of Furumaro. Can the player who now controls Furumaro use his reaction "after this battle ends" to keep Furumaro alive and maintain control of him?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Physically_mark ... rd_control: "Changing control... does not have a duration." Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Diagotsu's battle ability on furumaro", 28 Jul 2010 - Q: Battle: Permanently give a target enemy personality with lower Chi Shadowlands. He succumbs to the Dark Lord's will. Take control of him (if you do so, he joins your army). If you now control him, destroy him after this battle ends.
A: Personality is destroyed. Any cards that are equipped to personality at the time of his destruction are also destroyed.
If you transferred an attachment off of the personality before the personality is destroyed, said attachment is not destroyed. Dan Jacobson, "Daigotsu-Exp3 and transferable attachments", 27 May 2010 - Q: I have a question in relation to the interactions of playing I do not die so easily as reaction to a personality being targeted by enticement or Daigotsu.
Player B plays enticement on Player A's Personality 1; in reaction Player A, plays I do not die so easily. As Player A's action, they lobby for the favor, (or some other action); Does, Personality 1, then die because of the triggered effect on I do not die so easily?
Question 2 is the same but during battle after Personality 1 has been targeted by Daigotsu, and Player performs any action (aside from pass).
Reaction: After another player's action targets your Personality during a battle: Negate his destruction from the action's effects. After the resolution of your next Battle action this battle, destroy him.
A: Underline is my point of order.
You cannot use I Do Not Die So Easily! in reaction to Enticement. Enticement is not usable during battle.
With Daigotsu exp 3, assuming you play a Battle action during that battle, your personality will be destroyed. Dan Jacobson, "I do not die so easily and Enticement/Daigotsu", 12 Apr 2010 - Q: A Question that came up last night was this one, which in turn leads to further sub questions.
I have Daigotsu Xp3 in a battle and take control of a generic unit of my opponents containing a Legion of Toshigoku.
In this case he sent the stolen unit home before I could use the actions on it but we were unable to work out when the unit died who would draw the card.
Daigotsu Xp 3 = Battle: Permanently give a target enemy personality with lower Chi Shadowlands. He succumbs to the Dark Lord's will. Take control of him (if you do so, he joins your army). If you now control him, destroy him after this battle ends.
Legion of Toshigoku = Battle: Even if this card is bowed: Destroy this card. Reaction: After this card enters a discard pile from play: Draw a card.
My questions then are who would draw the card in the following circumstances - the answer I expect will be the same in all cases but would like the clarifiction.
a) If the Unit containing the Legion of Toshigoku is sent home and dies at the end of the battle but outside it? b) If I use the ability of the Legion of Toshigoku to destroy it? c) I choose not to use the ability and he dies in the battle as a result of battle resolution or at the end of the battle?
Thanks in advance Az
A: The Reaction is used when the card is in the discard pile, and since a card always goes to its owner's discard pile, only its owner will be able to use the Reaction. Alex Jones, "Daigotsu (xp3) and Legion of Toshigoku", 16 Oct 2009 - Q: I always try to be within the rules to help out my friends and our good noobs. So, you'll see me here asking a lot kind of question. Sorry 'bout this.
A: No problem. It's our job to answer, after all. Brook Cunningham, "Difference between Daigotsu (Exp. 3) 'n Veiled Menace", 9 Jul 2009 - Q: Now, to the question:
Why is Daigotsu's ability not ending at the end of the turn (assuming he negates de personality's death somehow) and Veiled Menace (viewtopic.php?f=59&t=77251) does?
A: Effects with an ongoing duration end at the end of turn by default. Veiled Menace creates an ongoing effect of (in the roughest terms) "each time X happens, Y happens". Instantaneous effects, like the change of control brought on by Daigotsu, have no duration. Therefore, they also have no duration that can expire. Now, the "Y happens" in my rough example might be (and in the case of Veiled Menace, IS) an instantaneous effect, but the effect that is causing it to periodically occur has a duration that ends. Brook Cunningham, "Difference between Daigotsu (Exp. 3) 'n Veiled Menace", 9 Jul 2009 - Q: I always thought that only effects that changes stats or "orientation" (bowed, unbowed, dishonored...) of a Personality or that gives a new ability needed to be phrased "until the end of the game" to not end at the turn.
A: It's here that you're apparently muddied up. Changes to stats, like Force or Chi bonuses or penalities, are ongoing and may have a duration. Changes like bowing, dishonoring, gains/losses of Honor and changing control are all instantaneous and never "expire"; it would take another, separate effect to "undo" them (which, in the case of bowing, is why we have a Straighten Phase at all).
I hope that all helps clarify the matter for you. Brook Cunningham, "Difference between Daigotsu (Exp. 3) 'n Veiled Menace", 9 Jul 2009 - Q: Player A controls Daigotsu in battle. Player B controls two random samurai. Daigotsu takes control of one. Player B destroys the controlled samurai and then plays Will to bring him back into his own army. Does the samurai that was once controlled by Player A still die at the end of battle?
A: Yes. Player A controlled him when the check was made, so the Personality is now marked for death at battle's end, regardless of whether he was destroyed or switched control before the battle's end. Zen Faulkes, "Daigotsu and Will", 5 Jul 2009 - Q: @Brook Cunningham Modern/20f-
Can [Daigotsu xp3] "take control" of Loyal personalities?
A: Andra is right. The target will get Shadowlands, but Loyal will make the control change fail if the target isn't Spider. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 9 Aug 2025
