Rules Q&A
- Q: Also, how does Akasha's ranged 2 attack option work? If I give her the ranged 2 attack option during my limited, can I then proceed to attack, play a sneak, a blackened sky and use Akasha as my hot little ranged 2 machine gun? Could I go on using her ranged 2? Or is it once per battle? Does she needs to bow? It does'nt say so on the card, so I guess she's a machine gun... :)
A: From the Rulebook, pg. 63:
A card making a ranged attack must bow to do so, and suffer any consequences of bowing.
This applies even when it is not explicitly written, such as in Akasha's case. No hot machine gun action for you. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 25th, 2003", 25 Jul 2003 - Q: Ok,
A friend in my local play area is asking difficult questions this weekend.
1.
Is Akasha considered a Creature and Human? She has the Traits Legacy of the Naga and Human.
A: She wouldn't be a Creature in any event -- Naga are only Nonhuman.
The answer, though, is "no". A card cannot be both Human and Nonhuman at the same time. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 January 2003", 22 Jan 2003 - Q: With respect to Palm Strike, is bowing still an inherent cost of Ranged Attacks (eg Akasha, once per game, can gain the ability, Battle: Ranged 2 Attack)
A: Yes. That hasn't changed. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 August 2002", 21 Aug 2002 - Q: Akasha and the Hunting Tiger become legal when APC does, which is October 4th (hey, that's TODAY!). None of the others have been formally released yet, so it's hard to say. Any released before An Oni's Fury will become legal when it does.
Is this a reversal, Jeff? I have an e-mail stating that Akasha becomes legal >with An Oni's Fury. (Of course, considering the tournament I play in tommorow, >I'm probably the only one who had a chance to play in a Season before, so I'm >not playing her, but it does make a difference.)
A: Ray Lau tells me the official release date of A Perfect Cut was September 4th, and I have it from Dave Lapore that Season of the Unicorn kits began delivery in late August. That means Akasha was formally released before A Perfect Cut was. She should be legal when it is. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 October 2001", 6 Oct 2001 - Q: I'm fairly new to the list (but no the game) so if this question has been asked and answered, sorry, but I kind of need this info for a Tournament on the 20th. My question is : When are the following promo's legal for tournament play? 1) The four Ronin 2) APC Box Toppers 3) Akasha 4) A Perfect Cut #16 5) Dark Oracle of Earth Exp.
A: Akasha and the Hunting Tiger become legal when APC does, which is October 4th (hey, that's TODAY!). None of the others have been formally released yet, so it's hard to say. Any released before An Oni's Fury will become legal when it does. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 October 2001", 4 Oct 2001 - Q: When do the following become "Tournament legal?" <iai snip> Akasha:
When An Oni's Fury becomes legal.
Uh ? I thought the Seasons of the Unicorn package mentioned that Akasha was immediately legal in the accompanying booklet ?
A: I just re-read it. It says she's legal in your LEAGUE if you run your Season of the Unicorn event as a league, and that's it. It specifically says she's not immediately legal if you run it like a normal tournament, and otherwise does not address her legality. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 17 September 2001", 18 Sep 2001 - Q: Is Akasha legal now?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 10 September 2001", 12 Sep 2001 - Q: From the card we see that Akasha is human, but is she also considered a Naga card because of the trait "Legacy of the Naga"?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 15-20 July", 26 Jul 2001 - Q: Hey, does Akasha's ablilty to make a ranged two attack bow her?
A: Yes, by rulebook definition. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 10-14 July 2001", 19 Jul 2001 - Q: From the card we see that Akasha is human, but is she also considered a Naga card because of the trait "Legacy of the Naga"?
A: Not to comment on a card that hasn't been officialy released yet, but a hypothetical card printed with that hypothetical trait would indeed count as a Naga card, and be usable as such by Naga players. This ruling may change when it sees the bright light of reality. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 18th", 18 Jul 2001 - Q: does Akasha's ablilty to make a ranged two attack bow her?
A: [Zen has flashback to Imperial Edition. Wyrm Riders simply say "Battle: Ranged 2 attack," with no indication of whether they bow. Zen gets in argument with Ryan Dancey in *real* early days of l5rinfo about Wyrm Riders. Ryan's been telling people, "They're like a very slow Heart of the Inferno." Zen sputters, "But... but... but..." and takes Ryan to task (Ryan's words), arguing Wyrm Riders should bow, because the rulebook says things bow for Ranged Attacks. Ultimately, Wyrm Riders are ruled to bow. Zen begins slow return to the present day...]
Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 12 July 2001", 13 Jul 2001 - Q: thanks
but what in case of using word permanently then it remembers until end of game? dunno what happend with my file with this one Akasha
A: No. All effects are forgotten when face-down and out of play, including permanent ones. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 1 Nov 2025
