Rules Q&A
- Q: <snip>
I just finished our local SotSh tournament, and got a Dark Oracle of Earth. I looked over the card, and came up with a question. If you use the Dark Oracle on the Province that the experienced Hida Yakamo is in, may he enter play? He won't enter paly if you have any shadowlands cards in play, and vice-versa, but you don't have any in play when he is trying to enter.
He'll enter.
No, he won't. Last time I looked, the Dark Oracle of Earth was a Shadowlands card.
A: Um..."oops". Sorry about that. Couldn't see the forest for the trees. You're right.
If, somehow, you end up with a Shadowlands Yakamo still in your Province and no Shadowlands cards in play, his own trait will not prevent himself from entering, but that wasn't the case in the example given. Sorry for the confusion. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 December 2001", 12 Dec 2001 - Q: I just finished our local SotSh tournament, and got a Dark Oracle of Earth. A: You mean a Ratling card, don't you? It would not gain the Shadowlands trait. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 December 2001", 10 Dec 2001 - Q: I'm fairly new to the list (but no the game) so if this question has been asked and answered, sorry, but I kind of need this info for a Tournament on the 20th. My question is : When are the following promo's legal for tournament play? 1) The four Ronin 2) APC Box Toppers 3) Akasha 4) A Perfect Cut #16 5) Dark Oracle of Earth Exp.
A: Akasha and the Hunting Tiger become legal when APC does, which is October 4th (hey, that's TODAY!). None of the others have been formally released yet, so it's hard to say. Any released before An Oni's Fury will become legal when it does. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 October 2001", 4 Oct 2001 - Q: RE: This
To avoid confusion, I would like to point out that while the above ruling is correct, the reason given for it is not.
Zen's assertion that "Negation never undoes already resolved effects" was a rule in Lotus Edition, but is no longer true in Samurai Edition (see here).
The actual reason the above ruling is correct is the following:
http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Negating_effects: "If “all effects” of an action or trait are negated partway through the action or trait’s resolution, instantaneous effects that have already resolved are not undone, but ongoing effects that have already resolved are negated."
A: Yes, should have clarified "instantaneous effects." Sorry. Zen Faulkes, "Dark Oracle of Earth xp and Isawa Osugi", 5 Feb 2008 - Q: If I use the Dark Oracle ability on a face down card, and turns Osugi face up, will she turn back face down?
A: No. Negation never undoes already resolved effects. Zen Faulkes, "Dark Oracle of Earth xp and Isawa Osugi", 4 Feb 2008
