Rules Q&A
- Q: Can I have both the Ring of Water and the Dark Ring of Water in play at the same time, as long as I play the pure Ring of Water first?
A: Sure. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 13th, 2003", 13 Aug 2003 - Q: Do I have to destroy the army in the resolution phase to play the Dark Ring of Water?
The wording:
"Play this card after destroying a defending army or Province as the Attacker in a battle which had no attacking units assigned."
So, can I say, move in Moto Kumari and duel the sole defender, kill him, then play the DRoW?
A: GE rulebook p. 58: "Battle resolution is the only time the phrase 'destroying an army' is satisfied."
No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 October 2002", 29 Oct 2002 - Q: Also, for my sanity, a "Dark Ring of Water" is not even a "Ring of Water card" anymore, right?
A: Since, as of Samurai Edition, keywords are neither conveyed by titles (except in the exact case you asked about above), nor are they seperable, inseparable, or able to be "recombined", there is no such thing as a "Ring of Water card" unless it has the exact keyword (not title) "Ring of Water". But no game mechanic should ever ask for such a thing as a "Ring of Water card" (and if any do, let me know, and I'll fix them in the Oracle ). If the "Ring of Water" is referred to thus, that's a reference to the title, not a keyword. The Ring of Water, Dark Ring of Water, and False Ring of Water are all Ring cards (card type) and all "Water" cards, but only the "Ring of Water" is the "Ring of Water" due to its title. I hope that clarifies matters. Brook Cunningham, "Card titles", 19 Nov 2013
