Rules Q&A
- Q: (D)oes Deception's Veil Dojo count as a card for the purposes of Darling of the Season?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_types#Stronghold: "Effects, targeting and costs applied to 'cards' do not apply to a Stronghold unless they specifically mention the word 'Stronghold.'"
Darling of the Season neither involves targeting or a cost. I would also say that it is not generating an effect on the stronghold, either; it's generating an effect on honor gains.
I'm sure if other members of the Rules Junta think differently, they'll chirp up. Zen Faulkes, "Darling of the Season vs. Deception's Veil Dojo", 16 Mar 2009 - Q: Question 2: I'm playing against a Shizuka Toshi deck. My opponent announces the stronghold's action, and targets one of his courtiers, and one of mine. I want to react with Share the Blame in order to dishonor his courtier.
Are both Shizuka Toshi targets announced at the same time, or must I react to his first target before he targets any of my personalities? Does the same apply against a Deception's Veil Dojo action?
A: They are announced in the order printed on the card. You have to react to his first target before he targets your personalities. He'll be sure to target someone other than your Courtier you are dishonoring to play Share the Blame. This also holds true for Deception's Veil Dojo. Martin Lund, "Two questions about Share the Blame", 9 Nov 2007 - Q: Let's pretend I'm playing the scorpion Deceptions Veil Dojo stronghold and my opponent equips a Blade of Guile on a personality. Is he (he meaning the guy with the sword) an eligible target for my stronghold ability?
A: Ug, I just realized this is a Samurai Edition stronghold, so shouldn't say anything.
The general rule for whether whether an effect will be negated has no impact on whether something is a legal target. Zen Faulkes, "Blade of Guile + Deceptions Veil Dojo", 17 Jul 2007 - Q: If so, since he can't be dishonored MUST my opponent lose 3 honor because he cannot chose to dishonor the personality?
A: The general rule is that a player can make any choice he wants, regardless of whether the effect will be negated. Some consequences, though, look for the decision and some look for whether effects occurred. Zen Faulkes, "Blade of Guile + Deceptions Veil Dojo", 17 Jul 2007 - Q: I'm playing the scorpion DVD deck(...)
A: Mod reminder: Please do not use abbrevations, acronyms, or nicknames. They are confusing to new players, players whose first language is not English, and potentially to Deputy Rules Guys who are trying to answer your questions. Thanks!
