Rules Q&A
- Q: There's been some debate around here about how Spiritual Manipulation interacts with Den of Iniquity.
Does Den of Iniquity let someone ignore the effects of Spiritual Manipulation? Does the 'if legal' qualifier only apply to target assignation or does it also apply to attack declaration? Does the order in which the abilities are used matter (since that does seem to matter with some cards)?
Relevant text:
Den of Iniquity This card will not be destroyed. Other players will not lose Honor from your Spells. Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold. Political Limited: Bow this card and target another player's dishonorable Personality: His controller loses Honor equal to his base Personal Honor, or 3, whichever is lower. You may not declare an attack this turn.
Spiritual Manipulation Open: Choose your performing Spirit Personality and target a Personality controlled by the active player: His controller must declare a normal attack this turn and assign the target (if legal).
A: "May not" implies "Will not": you can't choose to do something covered by a "may not" effect, and even if forced to, it still doesn't happen. Alex Jones, "Spiritual Manipulation vs Den of Iniquity", 30 Jul 2012 - Q: I know that if I use Den of Iniquity during my action phase, I cannot declare an attack during my attack phase. However, if I declare an attack during my attack phase, does that mean I may not use Den's ability during the action phase granted by Twisted Fate?
I guess I'm asking if Den's restrictions lasts from when I announce the action until the end of my turn or if it is applied retroactively.
Den of Iniquity
Political Limited: Bow this card and target another player's dishonorable Personality: His controller loses Honor equal to his base Personal Honor, or 3, whichever is lower. You may not declare an attack this turn.
Twisted Fate
Until your Events Phase three turns from now begins, there is an additional Action Phase each turn which occurs between the Dynasty and End Phases.
A: The Den's restriction only applies from the moment it is used. It does not check to see if you've declared an attack previously. Jon Palmer, "Twisted Fate and Den of Iniquity", 1 Jul 2012 - Q: If I use Extending Influence to copy a ability that causes an honor loss. Does Den of Iniquity stop the loss?
A: No. While Extending Influence allows the ability to be copied, the copied ability is considered on the Shugenja, and thus comes from that card and not from Extending Influence. (Glossary: From). Ben Higgins, "Extending Influence", 20 Jun 2012 - Q: Hi,
I need a clarification about situation. I have in my army Master scouts and Daidoij Ebizo. The both cards have a trait After the resolution of your Recon action: Give Ebizo +1F/Master scouts +1F. I have Seeking the Truth card which is Recon and have Reaction: After engaging, choose your performing unbowed Scout at the current battlefield: You have Reconnaissance there. Put a non-Unique Battle Strategy in your discard pile into your hand. After this battle ends, if you did not destroy the battlefield's province or an army, discard a card at random. In my discard pile and other Seeking the Truth card in my hand. The battle starts and I use the recon Seeking the Truth ability which I target my other Seeking the Truth card in my discard pile. Can I now play the Seeking the Truth I have taken from My discard pile? If I can I will take my used Seeking the Truth card and, so on, and so on. In this way I can meke my Ebizo and Master scouts for ex. 100F bonus and then take any other strategy card in my discard pile? I just need clarifikation becos I don't know if Seeking th truth is a battle strategy?
Other Questions are: Does the Conquest Reaction: After a battle resolution ends, choose your performing attacking Conqueror Personality at that battlefield: Straighten his unit. It will not bow from the battle’s resolution. Does it can be made once per turn or once per battle? I think that it can be used once per turn becouse it is a reaction action but i am confused by the trait "After a battle resolution ends". And what if I am useeing the The Plain of Glass stronghold which seys "You may use the rulebook Conquest ability twice per turn during the same battle." can I use it twice per turn but in difrent battles or only twice in one battle?
Another one: Does the dishonor victory conditions which are: A player can lose by Dishonor, representing his or her faction being expelled from Rokugani society for offenses against honor. If a player’s Family Honor ever becomes –20 or below, the player loses the game at the beginning of his or her next End Phase, even if he or she returns to -19 or higher Family Honor. When my enemy will lose honor to -20 in my turn does he/she lose the game in his/her turn end phase or in his next turn end phase? When my enemy lose honor to -20 in his/her turn does he/she lose in his/her end phase or in his/her next turn end phase?
And the last one: Den of Iniquity when I used it ability on personality with 0 personal honor does it controler lose 0 honor?:)
thenks for reply Tom
A: Seeking the Truth is not a Battle Strategy, so it may not be retrieved from the discard pile by Seeking the Truth.
The Conquest ability can, like all other abilities unless otherwise stated, be used once per turn. The clause "After a battle resolution ends" tells you when you may use the ability; it has nothing to do with how often you may use the ability.
The Plain of Glass's trait allows you to use the Conquest ability twice per turn, but both uses must react to the end of the same battle's resolution.
At the beginning of your End Phase, if your Family Honour has ever been -20 or below, you lose the game.
Targeting a Personality with base Personal Honour of 0 will cause his controller to lose 0 honour. Alex Jones, "Seeking the Truth mega pump", 31 May 2012
