Rules Q&A
- Q: In regards to this:
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=75616
If I play Denounced and then attack, and my opponent defends with 3 personalities, and since Denounced is before the honor loss, I assume it works like this: Denounced applies to each defender, making an honor loss of 6. Since 3 is lower, that honor loss would be applied and Denounced would raise it to a 4 honor loss. Is this correct?
A: Correction: Civil Discussion will figure out which honour loss to give, then Denounced on Stage modifies it. Alex Jones, "Civil Discussion & Denounced on Stage", 6 May 2009 - Q: (W)hat is the timing of determining what honor loss is lower?
A: Denounced on Stage is before Honor loss (card text), so it applies after Civil Discussion decides the magnitude of Honor loss it creates. [Fixed] Zen Faulkes, "Civil Discussion & Denounced on Stage", 5 May 2009 - Q: My opponent has lost two provinces this game. I Denounced on stage Does he lose 5 or 6 honor?
A: He would lose 5 Honor.
In your example, using Seven Stings Keep's ability produces a single loss of 4, which Denounced would increase to 5.
http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_F#For_each: "Proportional effects using the term “for each”, such as “Gain 1 Honor for each Samurai you control,” should be interpreted as a single effect rather than numerous separate effects. In this instance, a player controlling 3 Samurai would gain 3 Honor at once, not 1 Honor three separate times." Brook Cunningham, "Seven Stings Keep and Denounced on Stage", 29 Aug 2008 - Q: Assuming the version of Seven Stings Keep is in it's final form...
A: Sorry, but the Rules Team doesn't answer questions about cards based on previews. Zen Faulkes, "Seven Stings Keep + Denounced on Stage", 16 Jul 2008 - Q: I was unable to find a ruling on this or a closely related ruling. This issue appears to be apart from previous denounced on stage rulings....
During my action phase, I play Denounced on stage. I subsequently target a 0 honor personality with Bayushi Saya. The 0 honor personality assigns or resolves an action that he performed. Does the personality lose 1 honor, as a result of a 0 honor loss increased by 1 before the player loses honor, or does the personality lose 0 honor, because a 0 honor loss can not occur, and therefore can not be increased.
Thank you.
...
Bayushi Saya
Political Open: Target a Personality. After the next time this turn his controller assigns him or an action resolves that he performed, his controller loses Honor equal to his Personal Honor, then he is dishonored.
Denounced on Stage
Political Limited: Target one of your Artisan or Courtier Personalities: For the rest of the turn, before each time a player loses Honor, increase the loss by 1.
A: Try this.
The player loses no honour. Alex Jones, "Bayushi Saya, a 0 PH target, and denounced on stage", 2 Jul 2008 - Q: Hi. After using the search function, I wasn't able to find an answer to the following question:
Denounced on Stage: Political Limited: Target one of your Artisan or Courtier Personalities: For the rest of the turn, before each time a player loses Honor, increase the loss by 1.
Yogo Honami: Political Reaction: Before a player loses Honor, bow Honami: Increase the loss by 1.
Is the following scenario correct?
Let's assume denounced on stage has been played and Yogo Honami is in play. Let's also assume an initial honor loss of 2 has occurred. Denounced on stage will increase this to 3. Yogo Honami's reaction will increase this loss to 4 because her honor loss increase applies directly to the initial loss of 2 and is not a subsequent honor loss.
Thank you Rules Junta, -Az
A: That all appears to be correct. Both are increasing the original loss; neither is a new loss. Zen Faulkes, "Yogo Honami's reaction and Denounced on Stage:", 6 May 2008 - Q: If another player controls a dishonored personality with 2 Denounced on Stage in effect even if they have lost the 5 honor max per turn if their personality dies from hired killer then would that player lose honor from its PH
A: Yes, the player would lose honor equal to the personal honor of the destroyed, dishonored personality plus 2, since the honor loss from a destroyed dishonored personality is a rulebook effect and not from a player. Doruk Özaydın, "Hidden Scandal", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: and would it be increased by Denounced on Stage or Yogo Honami?
A: Yes, it can be increased by Denounced on Stage or Yogo Honami as these effects simply increase the loss and do not create a new loss. Doruk Özaydın, "Hidden Scandal", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: When I destroy a dishonored personality who's base personal honor is 0. Does he not lose any honor or is he considered to lose 0 honor in which this honor loss could be increased with cards like "Denounced on Stage" and "Yogo Honami"?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/The_Player#Family_Honor: "An Honor gain of 0 points is not considered a gain for things that check whether a gain happened. Likewise, an Honor loss of 0 points is not considered a loss for such things." Zen Faulkes, "Dishonor destruction and honor loss", 22 Oct 2007 - Q: Since both actions (Denounced and Seppuku) have the same trigger what happens first?
A: Actually, they don't.
http://rules.l5r.com/Timing (some snippage):
"A. Apply any ongoing or continuous effects, such as "can not" wording, that negate or otherwise modify the occurrence that defines the trigger.
"B. If the point in time is a 'when' timing, continuous conditional effects that depend on the triggering occurrence take effect now."
"C. Apply any triggered rulebook effects that are not part of actions, such as rehonoring Personalities instead of Honor gain. The active player decides the order in which more than one of these effects apply.
"D. Apply any delayed effects that resolved previously and are timed to the trigger(.)" That's Denounced on Stage.
"E. Apply any triggered traits on cards. The active player decides the order in which more than one of these effects apply."
"F. Reactions may now be taken following an action round procedure." That's Seppuku. Zen Faulkes, "Denounced on Stage vs. Seppuku", 13 Aug 2007 - Q: Does losing zero honor still count as losing honor?
A: Comprehensive Rules, The Player, Family Honor: "An Honor gain of 0 points is not considered a gain for things that check whether a gain happened; likewise an Honor loss of 0 points is not considered a loss for such things."
Mod request: Deputy Rules Guys are really, really slow search engines. There is a search function on the left side of every page in the L5R rules wiki. A lot of questions are being asked that are directly and plainly answered in the Comprehensive Rules. If you are not finding them because they are not located where you think they should be, please take it to the designated thread in CCG Strategy main forum.
Thanks! Zen Faulkes, "Denounced on Stage", 1 Aug 2007 - Q: A Gozoku personality is targeted by Accusation causing his controller to lose 3 honor but no honor is lost because the personality's controller is still at his starting family honor. If the same action takes place after a Denounced on Stage has been played will the extra 1 honor loss take the controller below his family honor?
A: No. The limit on the loss it's increasing hasn't changed. Zen Faulkes, "Some Honor Loss Questions", 2 Jun 2007 - Q: If a personality commits seppuku after causing his controller an honor loss the loss is reduced to 1. Will this be increased to 2 by Denounced on Stage or will only the inital loss be increased (which will then be reduced to 1 by the effects of seppuku)?
A: The latter. Zen Faulkes, "Some Honor Loss Questions", 2 Jun 2007
