Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi
I've checked other rulings for I Carry Two Blades but didn't see this question covered. If my personality has a non-unique weapon attached and it is destroyed (for example, using the cost of Desperate Throw) can I use the reaction on I Carry Two Blades to reattach the same weapon?
I wasn't certain if the weapon immediately enters the discard pile on it's destruction (in which case it is a legal target for the card) or if it remained outside of the discard pile until after resolution of the action that destroyed it.
Card text for examples
I Carry Two Blades Reaction: After one of your Weapons is destroyed, target a non-Unique Weapon in your hand or discard pile: Attach it to your target Personality, paying 4 less Gold.
Desperate Throw Battle: Destroy a Weapon attached to your target unbowed Personality: Ranged Attack with strength equal to your Personality's Force (after destroying the weapon).
Thanks
Steve
A: After cards are destroyed they go into their owner's discard piles immediately. You may use I Carry Two Blades to retrieve the same non-unique weapon that was destroyed and attach it to your personality. Dan Jacobson, "I Carry Two Blades and attaching the same weapon", 19 Apr 2010 - Q: Hello Rules Gurus, my question is in regard to the timing for force calculation of Desperate Throw.
Desperate Throw Battle: Destroy a Weapon attached to your target unbowed Personality: Ranged Attack with strength equal to your Personality's Force (after destroying the weapon).
The italics part is reminder text telling us when to calculate the personalities force. Is the force calculation a triggered trait of Desperate Throw and thus would be at part B of the Timing Sequence?
This particularly affects the use of I Carry Two Blades, which is timed at part C of the sequence.
Example sequence of play: 4F personality with two +3F weapons Announce Desperate Throw and targets Pay cost by destroying a +3F weapon - Calculate Force here? Reaction of I Carry Two Blades, reattaching the +3F weapon - Or calculate Force here? Resolve ranged attack
Cheers UK Ronin
A: The reminder text is not definitive, it's just a reminder that you check the Personality's force at the point when the Ranged Attack is resolved. As you correctly mention, this is during resolve effects, and will reflect any changes to the Personality's force up to that point, including the destruction of the weapon, the (re-)attaching of new weapon via I Carry Two Blades and any other force bonuses or penalties from Reactions and triggered traits.
