Rules Q&A
- Q: Hoshi Wayan Unaligned Monk. Tattooed. Limited: Once per turn, put a tattoo token on Wayan. Reaction: Destroy a tattoo token on Wayan immediately after an opposing Personality in this battle gains a bonus to Force and/or Chi. Wayan gains an identical bonus to that just gained by the opposing Personality. Wayan may only react this way once to each bonus.
Out of curiosity, Hoshi Wayan can destroy a token to copy any opposing force or chi bonuses as a reaction. Does that mean that each time his opponent focuses in a duel he can take that reaction to get a bonus equal to the opponet's focus?
A: Yes, provided they are opposing each other in a battle. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2002", 30 Oct 2002 - Q: Wayan can only use the reaction in a battle, it did not work with Iajiutsu Art. However he still was not overlooked as a dueling monster. I used him all the time for duels in battles.
So, you could use his reaction during an iajitsu duel to copy your opponets focuses. Right? One token per focus. What if they have double-chi?
A: Double Chi makes the focus add twice [GE p. 65], creating two separate bonuses. He can copy one per token. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2002", 30 Oct 2002 - Q: Following up on the Hoshi Wayan discussion:
Jeff, if Double Chi causes a focus to add twice, is this treated as two separate chi bonuses? If so, are both bonuses created when the focus is played or is one generated when played and the other generated when the focus is revealed?
A: Yes. When played. (There is no reason I can think of to apply the second bonus at a different time from the first one.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2002", 30 Oct 2002 - Q: Hida Tenshu Test of Mights Akodo Fumio. Fumio focuses. Tenshu focuses. Fumio strikes, and uses his reaction to copy Tenshu's force bonus from his focus, which then lasts until the end of the battle.
A: Minor point: Fumio is using his Reaction too late in your example. He has to do it as soon as the bonus is gained.
Major point: Focusing is not an action. Fumio can only copy bonuses caused by actions. [card text] Fumio can only copy bonuses during duels when they come from Reactions, such as Bend Like a Reed. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 October 2002", 29 Oct 2002
