Rules Q&A
- Q: Does having base personal honer of 6 override the rulebook maximum of PH5 per 1st cardinal rule? (if a card breaks a rule, use the card)
Or is it still capped down to 5, they can just receive a -1 PH and still be at 5? (and counts as 6 when anything targets, uses, or compares 'base personal honor' making them nukes vs. den of iniquity and/or R. bazaar)
Example cards with base PH 6:
Hantei
Doji
since base PH and PH technically are not the same thing, its grey to me. Also, we say Hantei can assign vs. Ki-Rin (which was the only situation where it came up in our group prior to these base PH comparing cards in EE) which this will confirm/deny
A: The First Cardinal Rule allows their PH of 6.
The Ki-Rin will not keep Hantei or Doji from attacking you. Jon Palmer, "base Personal Honor 6 vs. maximum PH 5", 28 Feb 2012 - Q: Doji (Kami) reads:
"While you control Doji, cards focused by Personalities you control return to your hand instead of being discarded when the duel ends."
Using legacy rules, do cards focused from the focus pool also go to your hand, or just the card(s) focused from the hand (since it says return to your hand)?
A: The latter.
A card can't "return" to somewhere that it never was.
See Strike Without Striking. Brook Cunningham, "Doji Kami & returning focus cards", 18 Mar 2009 - Q: can i play Wear Him Down from Tsuma's Doji reaction and use Wear Him Down's reaction (oponent must focus) ??
A: Answered in the Archive entry for Tsuma Dojo. Zen Faulkes, "wear him down + tsuma dojo", 10 Mar 2005 - Q: Question under Lotus Rules. If Doji ran was ever at a battelfield, you satisfy rule of precense. But I think Rule of relevance still takes effect for cards like strength of the crane right? You cannot target a personality on a different battelfield to use strength of the crane? anyone can confirm? @Brook Cunningham Here is the rule of relevance from lotus rulebook • A player can take only Battle and Open actions that involve the current battle somehow. This is called the Rule of Relevance. The action must: • Come from, target, affect, play, or create a card or token at the current battlefield or attached to the current Province, or • Target or affect the current Province itself, or • Move a card or token into the current battlefield or onto to the current Province
A: Actually, I'm pretty sure you can use SotC tageting a Crane you control anywhere as long as the target of the RA is at the current battlefield (and you have presence, of course, be it from Ran's trait or actually having it). Notice, Relevance bullet 1 indicates the action must (underlined emphasis mine) "Come from, target, affect, play, or create". It "affects" the RA target, so you're good. Oh, wait wait wait, sorry. Gotta look a little deeper than just P and R.... Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 17 Dec 2025 - Q: different units but only once each, so if the opponent uses straightening movement tech to bring them back in, you can't use Doji on them again
A: Is English not your first language? If it is, then I don't understand how the wording is confusing. If not, then I'm a lot more sympathetic 🙂 Alex Jones, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 3 Oct 2023
