Rules Q&A
- Q: Player A resolves War of Dark Fire.
On player B's turn, he attempts to gain honour (perhaps through the use of Doji Nukada), but reacts to the action with Only Actions Speak.
Does OAS or War of Dark Fire take priority, or is it up to the active player (Player B) to decide?
A: Active player picks.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Timing#Timing_sequence: "Apply any ongoing, continuous, or triggered effects that negate, prevent, or substitute the occurrence that defines the trigger, making the occurrence not happen in the first place. If more than one of these effects conflict, the active player decides the order in which they happen." Emphasis added. Zen Faulkes, "War of Dark Fire vs. Only Actions Speak", 21 May 2011 - Q: Personality X of my opponent's is dishonorable, and I target them with Pull the String.
A: Which says, "The controller of a target dishonorable Personality loses 3 Honor." Zen Faulkes, "Seppuku and Doji Nukada", 20 Feb 2011 - Q: Personality X has the Samurai trait so he may seppuku.
A: And the player ability says, "reduce the Honor loss" -- from the three it was about to be -- "to one". Zen Faulkes, "Seppuku and Doji Nukada", 20 Feb 2011 - Q: So when this happens, since it reduces all honor losses of an action down to 1,
A: Stop. Pronoun trouble. What is "it"? If you mean the seppuku player ability, it does not reduce all honor losses from an action; it reduces one honor loss from an action ("the Honor loss" is singular). (Few actions cause more than one honor loss, though.) Zen Faulkes, "Seppuku and Doji Nukada", 20 Feb 2011 - Q: would by me reacting with Nukada make them lose 4 and me gain 3? Or them only lose 1 and me still gain 3?
A: Neither, if I understand the question right. (Pronoun trouble above may be confusing me.)
Doji Nukada reads, "That player" -- the one who has already lost 1 Honor from Pull the String -- "loses 1 Honor." This means he is down by 2 Honor, from two separate 1 point losses.
Finally, Nukada says, "Gain 1 Honor." You're up 1 Honor. Zen Faulkes, "Seppuku and Doji Nukada", 20 Feb 2011 - Q: Does Doji Nukada increase the loss or create a seperate loss?
A: Separate (card text). It doesn't say "additional," or "more," or anything like that. Zen Faulkes, "Doji Nukada and Legendary Feud", 12 Feb 2011 - Q: If my opponent assigns the person targeted by Legendary Feud, can i react with Nukada to increase the honour loss?
A: No. Legendary Feud creates a delayed effect, and actions resolve before delayed effects kick in. See: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Abilities_and_a ... resolution
By the time the honor change happens, the window of opportunity for the Reaction is long gone. Zen Faulkes, "Doji Nukada and Legendary Feud", 12 Feb 2011
