Rules Q&A
- Q: [10]. Ieshige + Taking actions
Does a Ranged 3 Attack destroy an Akodo Ieshige or when the ranged apply he has the +1F bonus? When is the action considered taken from the effects of Ieshige Force Bonus?
A: The Action is considered "taken" once all the Costs have been paid for and responded to, but before any Effects of the Action resolve.
So Ieshige gets +1 Force before the Range 3 resolves against him. Martin Lund, "Rules for 11 December 2004", 13 Dec 2004 - Q: Direct asault requires an opposing player. extrapolating from
[MARTY] "An opposing player" means "a player who controls a card opposing Ieshige in the current battle." [JA, 4 December 2003] (Accumulated Rulings, Akodo Ieshige)
does this mean that I can only destroy holdings if there are opposing cards in the battle? I am assuming it does.. thanks.
A: It does mean that, yes. You can't destroy holdings with Direct Assault unless there are opposing units. Martin Lund, "Rules for 28 May 2004", 1 Jun 2004 - Q: Does Akodo Ieshige have to have to be in battle to use his ability. I know the rule that says when it says opposing they have to be in the current battle..but someone was saying this doesn't work for Ieshige because he just says opposing player..I don't think this is right can someone help me out?
A: [MARTY] Akodo Ieshige does not have any abilities. He has a trait. They are different things. The rule about
"opposing" only applies to taking actions, not triggering effects of traits (DE Rulebook, page 81).
Anyway, he's got standing rulings on him in the Archive. I think I was one of the original people bringing up
the "Hey, what if he's opposed in this battle, but I'm resolving another battle?" line of questioning.
Anyway, the relevant rulings / clarifications you want are these:
"An opposing player" means "a player who controls a card opposing Ieshige in the current battle." [JA, 4
December 2003]"
Must be in the current battle to gain his Force bonus. [JA, 4 December 2003] Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 May 2004", 16 May 2004 - Q: Otomo Taneji has 2 Kuroiban Advisors attached to him. He issues a Storm Heart challenge to a dishonored Akodo Ieshige (or any bloodspeaker with chi < 5). When the duel begins, I bow both advisors to give Ieshige -4C and kill him. Is it correct to say that Taneji will not be dishonored because the duel ended without resolution?
A: Yes, the duel does not have two participants, and thusly can not determine a winner or loser to affect in any way. Martin Lund, "Rules for 5 May 2004", 8 May 2004 - Q: Will Ieshige bow if I target him with relentless assult with my personality with Yu 3 or it will not affect him due to his trait to gain 1 force?
A: Ieshige will have his Force Bonus added before Relentless Assault applies its modified Fear effect against him. If that makes him 4F vs. Fear 3, he won't bow. Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 May 2004", 6 May 2004 - Q: Will Ieshige bow if I target him with relentless assult with my personality with Yu 3 or it will not affect him due to his trait to gain 1 force?
A: If you play "Relentless Assault" against a unit lead by a 3F Akodo Ieshige, Ieshige's trait will trigger before the effects of the Relentless Assault resolve. Consequently, when you try to apply Fear 3 to Ieshige as if he were a follower, you'll be comparing Fear 3 vs. 4 Force, and Ieshige won't bow. Martin Lund, "Rules for 2 May 2004", 5 May 2004 - Q: Now suppose that my opponent is attacking one of my provinces with a lone Akodo Ieshige, and I assign a Migawari to defend. Because I want to win the battle as opposed to just tying it, can I play Rising Shadows and target Ieshige twice with it (in effect, bowing Ieshige to bow himself)?
A: Yes you can. Obviously, the second bowing won't do anything noticeable. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 April 2004", 14 Apr 2004 - Q: Akodo Ieshige questions,
The opponent has no defenders in the current battle but has a defender at another battle that is being attacked. The defender sends Akodo Ieshige home with the favor as an action. Does Akodo Ieshige gain a force bonus from this?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 1 March 2004", 2 Mar 2004 - Q: a) My opponent plays Control the Field, destroys my terrain and plays his terrain;
A: +1F. It is one action. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 1 March 2004", 2 Mar 2004 - Q: The Phoenix player plays sneak attack and bows Isawa Yoriko and casts Kuro's fire. At this point why does Shiba Yoma Exp not Gain the force bonus and Akoko Ieshige does?
Relavent text on Shiba Yoma Exp Immediately before each time a Kiho or Spell is cast while Yoma is in the current battle, he gains +1F/+1C. . Relavent text on Akodo Ieshige. Ieshige gains +1F each time an opposing player takes an action during an Attack Phase.
A: They do both gain the bonus. I don't see where I said otherwise.
Yoma gets the bonus immediately before the Spell is cast. If the Spell is canceled, the bonus goes away -- retroactively, if necessary. So does Ieshige's. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 10 Feb. 2004", 11 Feb 2004 - Q: Does Akodo Ieshige gain a bonus even if the action my opponent was taking is cancelled?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 12 December 2003", 12 Dec 2003
