Rules Q&A
- Q: If I use Yotsu Ueda's ability to target a card and my opponent responds with a reaction (like Kakihara's) which boosts the target's force after I targeted it, what happens? Does Kakihara's reaction (or the like) block Ueda's ability from resolving successfully?
Thanks!
Relevant card text:
A: No.
As long as Ueda's ability was legal when you targeted it, it's still going to destroy the card you targeted. The Kakihara in this case would still gain its force bonus, then die, which could be pertinent for later effects such as At Any Cost. Jon Palmer, "Yotsu Ueda vs. Akodo Kakihara", 5 Mar 2013 - Q: Cant find any other topics on this and i have been away from the game for a while.
Can a player react with Akodo Kakihara's reaction when targeted with a ranged or melee attack to potentially avoid being destroyed? (example, a ranged 6 vs a 4F kakihara would react to become 8F)
IF yes, does this ruling change if the ranged/melee attack is redirected to Kakihara with Chugo Seido?
A: Kakihara's Reaction triggers after the targeting, before the destruction effect of the Ranged Attack. If his force after the bonus is greater than the Ranged Attack's strength, he will not be destroyed.
Chugo Seido reacts "When an action would target", which is just before the targeting actually occurs. Kakihara reacts after the targeting, so there is no timing conflict. Alex Jones, "Akodo Kakihara vs ranged/melee attacks", 1 Feb 2013 - Q: When choosing targets for the unopposed portion of the The Shadow's Lair action, does Kakihara's reaction trigger as soon as he is chosen, thus counting as 8f? Does the send home still occur if he is chosen last and his +4F pushes the total force over 9?
A: Kakihara's Reaction may as well do nothing, as far as The Shadow's Lair's action is concerned. His "contribution" to the "total" of 9 or less Force is assessed at the time he is targeted, and since his Reaction occurs AFTER, the additional Force will never affect what other targets may be chosen by the Stronghold's action nor the effect itself.
