Rules Q&A
- Q: Can I play Draw Them Out as a reaction to another player's Imperial Ambassadorship? If I can, does that mean that my opponent only keeps the first card he draws, or does he keep one and discard the other two?
A: Assuming you react to the second card and not the third, he would draw and keep one, draw and discard two, then still choose two of those three cards -- no matter where they are now -- to shuffle back into his deck. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 September 2002", 19 Sep 2002 - Q: There were some wuestions at out local tournament about Campsite/Draw Them Out.
1. When the player with Campsite uses his reaction it isn't an all or nothing proposition, is it? I mean if 4 units attack can he choose to draw 2 cards rather than 0 or 4? 2. Does he have to announce how many he is drawing or is the reaction to each unit seperate? (I draw one...and another...and another...)
A: Each unit assignment and each movement is a separate trigger. The Campsite's Reaction is optional against each individual one. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 August 2002", 27 Aug 2002 - Q: Let me go on record as saying I wish [Draw Them Out] wasn't here. As a Dragon running Shrio mirumoto with my fate-cycling shugenja, Ive never had to worry before when I draw 17 cards a trun from Chieh, stronghold and Campsite. Thanks for giving me one more thing to worry about.
A: Hey. I'm here for you. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 August 2002", 23 Aug 2002 - Q: To all those complaining, let me posit a scenario. (Just speculation.)
A: I appreciate the thought, but please don't speculate. Speculations turn into rumors, which turn into wild misconceptions, which prompt inappropriate assumptions. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 August 2002", 22 Aug 2002 - Q: "A "draw" happens when you take the top card(s) off a deck, regardless of whether the term "draw" is used. [...] [DW, e-mail]"
As a side note, this means that you can use Draw Them Out on Sezaru's Strength.
A: No you can't. Those cards are not drawn since they don't go into your hand. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 August 2002", 21 Aug 2002 - Q: If my opponent plays Naseru's Strength and reveals the first card of his fate deck, can I play Draw Them Out and cause the next five cards he reveals to go to his discard pile?
A: No. Your opponent is not drawing them. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 August 2002", 21 Aug 2002 - Q: Also, for New Year's Celebration, could you (i.e. Jeff, Zen, Vaughn or Shosho) please tell me a little about the timing for New Year's Celebration? It's my turn and I flip New Year's Celebration. The following things happen, but I don't know what order they happen in:
a) I discard my hand b) my opponent discards his hand c) I draw 5 cards (one at a time) d) my opponent draws 5 cards (one at a time)
Obviously, (a) must come before (c) and (b) must come before (d), but can I choose the order of effects outside of that? Can I choose to have the effects resolve (b), (d), (a), (c) - if I already have Draw Them Out in my hand or (a), (c), (b), (d) if I don't yet have Draw Them Out in my hand and I'm hoping that it's in my next 5 cards?
Or, perhaps, do both my opponent and I each discard our hands and then each of us alternates drawing one card at a time until we have drawn 5 cards?
A: One player discards then draws, then a second player discards then draws, then a third player, etc. The order is chosen by the active player. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 20 August 2002", 21 Aug 2002 - Q: Someone brought this to my attention.

Stolen Records
Limited: Target another player. That player shuffles his or her hand into the Fate deck, then draws the same number of cards.
So, I was wondering if this two card six gold combo really does kill someones hand minus one to three cards. Please tell me I'm missing something here.
A: That combo looks legal to me. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 August 2002", 20 Aug 2002 - Q: Too many posts to snip. Can we have an official ruling on the Stolen Records/ Draw Them Out combo?
A: A little patience, please? You have to expect a *little* delay on questions that get asked over a weekend, you know. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 August 2002", 20 Aug 2002 - Q: My opponent announces Trusted Counsel (TC) during a battle. I want to react to it with Draw Them Out (DTO). 1) if my opponent did not draw any cards prior to TC, can I even announce DTO? 2) can I play DTO between the first and second card-draws of my opponent with his TC? 3) if the answer to 2) is yes, can my opponent just decide not to draw any more cards with TC (thus ignoring DTO's discard effect)?
In other words, is the number of cards drawn with TC decided once at the beginning of its resolution, or are there 3 separate, consecutive decisions whether to draw or not?
If there are separate decisions, do I have to choose "draw or boost" after each decision, or do I have to make all my choices once my opponent has finished drawing? Do I have to choose the number of cards I want to draw in advance, or can I make successive decisions based on the cards I am drawing one by one?
Trusted Counsel Battle: Draw zero to three cards. For each card drawn, the enemy leader may either draw a card or give +3F to a Personality at the current battlefield.
Draw Them Out Reaction: Before a player who has already drawn Fate cards this turn draws one or more Fate cards due to his own card effects: The next five Fate cards that player draws this turn (including the ones about to be drawn) are discarded immediately after being drawn. Lose 1 Honor.
A: 1. You may not react to Trusted Council with Draw Them Out unless the opponent has already drawn cards this turn.
2. The cards are drawn at once, so no, you may not react "between" them. Jon Palmer, "Draw Them Out vs. Trusted Counsel", 30 Oct 2012 - Q: Draw them out Gozoku Strategies
A: Your question does not exactly compute? Neither of those Reactions are triggered by discarding, only by drawing. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 21 Feb 2026
