Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Earth Becomes Sky 4G 3FV Earth Battle: Bow this Spell: Give a target Personality opposing this unit a –5F/–2C Rock token. Rules Q&A
- Q: Hey All, If I play Duty in response to my opponent using Earth Becomes Sky on a personality with less than three chi, does the personality with the rock token:
B. Die immediately.
A: The correct answer is "B". And that's because...
http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Specific_stats: "Th[e] destruction from zero Chi is continuously applied. Special rules apply to its negation. Ongoing and instantaneous effects that negate destruction, such as the trait "Before this card is destroyed: Negate the destruction," will not negate destruction from zero Chi (see Effects)." Brook Cunningham, "Earth Becomes Sky vs. Duty", 18 Feb 2009 - Q: Is it possible to use Rout on one of your own personalities that has been afflicted with a rock token from Earth Becomes Sky to take off the rock token...?
A: No, sorry.
Rout destroys an attachment.
Attachments are "cards that enter play by being attached to Personalities" (Citation).
Tokens are not cards (Citation). Brook Cunningham, "Interaction of multiple cards to remove token and return per", 24 Jul 2008 - Q: regarding viewtopic.php?f=59&t=65732
would the change to the token be permanent or would the token return to -5F/-2C at the end of the turn
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Duration_of_effects: "Ongoing effects last until the end of the turn in which they occur unless otherwise indicated." Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Earth Becomes Sky", 22 Feb 2008 - Q: Justly Earned Victory... negates the force penalty, or the whole action that caused it?
A: Actions are never negated; just individual effects are. Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Earth Becomes Sky", 18 Feb 2008 - Q: How does Justly Earned Victory interact with tokens such as Earth Becomes Sky?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/Non-card_physical_game_elements: "Effects of tokens come from the card or other source that created them."
If an action makes a token, the token's effects are action effects. Zen Faulkes, "Justly Earned Victory and Earth Becomes Sky", 17 Feb 2008 - Q: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=61161 http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=59814&p=768323&hilit=Obsidian+Dragon#p768323
Okay. These seem to contradict each other. This is the way I see it, please correct me if I'm wrong. We'll use the same two effects so as to keep things easy. Obsidian Dragon and Earth Becomes Sky. We are also assuming in this case that the Personality getting hit is a 4 Chi 4 PH personality.
Situation A: Personality assigns Vs. Obsidian Dragon. They go to 1 Chi. They then Get hit with Earth Becomes Sky. Do they go to 1 Chi again via the Dragon modifying its penalty, or does the personality die? (In my estimation they die.)
Situation B: Personality assigns. Personality gets hit with Earth Becomes Sky. Obsidian Dragon gets brought in via Ring of Water or another movement effect. Do they go down to 1 Chi, or die? (In my estimation they go to 1 Chi.)
A: Marty is outvoted. Follow the Obsidian Dragon entry in the wiki. Zen Faulkes, "Obsidian Dragon Clarification (3)", 2 Sep 2007
