Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Earthquake 5G 4FV Elemental Earth Battle: Bow this Shugenja to bow an opposing Personality." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 62
- Clarified: Shugenja must bow to cast this spell. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 8
- Q: I have a spell card which doesn't specifically say to bow the shugenja it's attached to. Can I use it and then another spell on the same shugenja? A: No. All spells bow the shugenja who's using them. Most of them say to do so, but we missed a couple. (Earthquake and Wind Born Speed, for instance.) The Imperial Herald, Vol. 1, Issue 1, p. 11
Rules Q&A
- Q: However, then I read the example in the DE rulebook about Earthquake. It says clearly that the Shugenja casting it must be in the battle. So, that leads me to think that Doji Jotaro must be in the battle to use his ability.
A: Earthquake's ability uses the word "opposing" to describe its target. That means that the target of Earthquake must oppose the personality casting Earthquake. This can only happen if both the target and caster are in armies opposed to one another in battle. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 May 2004 - Q: 2 - Earthquake has the earth trait?
A: The card itself does not, for the same reason and because you cannot use just the "Earth" in the title. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 19 March 2004", 20 Mar 2004 - Q: 2) My opponent plays Earthquake on a personality during a battle. Can the followers still use their battle actions (Fear, Range, etc) since they are not bowed, or does bowing a personality only take the unit out effectively.
A: Earthquake bows only the Personality card. While this stops all cards in the unit from adding Force, it doesn't stop his Followers from bowing to use their own actions. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 January 2002", 18 Jan 2002
