Rules Q&A
- Q: If a courtier is targeted with Eloquence and is then dishonored, can he still bow for the Favor with the Eloquence effect?
A: Eloquence says, 'Permanently give a target Courtier Personality the ability "Political Limited: Bow this card to gain the Imperial Favor. This counts as a lobbying attempt."'
'"This counts as a lobbying attempt" means an action counts against the number of lobbying attempts you can make in one turn, and may be responded to with Reactions to lobbying, but does not require you to have the single highest Family Honor and does not require that you bow an additional Personality with more than 0 Personal Honor to perform it. [JA, 1 December 2003]' (Accumulated Rulings, "Imperial Favor") Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 June 2004", 15 Jun 2004 - Q: So a dishonored courtier can take the favor using the action gained by Eloquence (but not do a 'normal' lobby attempt), correct?
A: Apparently. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 1 December 2003", 1 Dec 2003 - Q: So what does the sentence "This counts as a lobbying attempt" that is on Eloquence refer to?
A: Reactions and effects that look for lobbying. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30 November 2003", 1 Dec 2003 - Q: I have a courtier out when Eloquence goes off. Can I lobby for the favor with one of my personalities, discard the favor for X effect, then lobby again with the targeted courtier to get it again[?]
A: Yes. The "once per turn" limit is only for lobying allowed by the rulebook (Diamond rules, pg. 91). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 29 November 2003, Part 2", 30 Nov 2003 - Q: If I am playing either the Spawning Grounds or Temple of the Ninth Kami can I use Eloquence to lobby for the favour if my wind is Daigotsu?
A: Yes (Black Heart of the Empire card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 29 November 2003, Part 2", 30 Nov 2003 - Q: I'm still confused on how the imperial favor works. As I understand it
1. Only one player may control the imperial favor at a time.
2. If one player controls the imperial favor and the other lobbies, the lobbying player takes the favor from the first player.
3. If I use the event Eloquence to take the imperial favor, I don't have to have more family honor than the other guy, and if my opponent already controls the imperial favor I take it from them.
Is this correct?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Imperial Favor", 9 Apr 2005
