Rulings
- Earlier effects are not cumulative multiple times. E.g., bowing three shugenja does not let you give two followers +3F and three Personalities +1F. [3/9/99] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 62
Rules Q&A
- Q: Your ring of air could be played after the whole spell resolves... Works this way with the flee... You say you're gonna kill this follower that follower and that pep. The opponents flee's so you stopp the current effects the followers are still destroyed
I thought that announcing all targets of an action was required before starting to generate its effects, thus Flee the Darkness would cancel the whole action before generating any effects, whereas e.g. Emergence of the Masters cancelled by A Test of Courage would still grant its Force bonuses. Might I have a clarification?
A: Sure. Consecutive ranged attacks are a special case. They are NOT all targeted at the very beginning of the action. [DE p. 98] Jeff Alexander, "rules for 5 Feb. 2004", 6 Feb 2004 - Q: Emergence of the Masters is played during battle. Should they play each of the effects in sequence from the One Shugenja effect to the Two and Three Shugenja effect if they have bowed 3 Shugenja or can they take them in any order?
A: They occur in the order written. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 December 2003, Part 3", 12 Dec 2003 - Q: They do use Emergence of the Masters with 5 Shugenja... to top that, they try to send home one of my units. I negate the send home with the right hand, does that cancel the destruction effect?
A: No (Diamond rules, pg. 72). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 December 2003, Part 3", 12 Dec 2003 - Q: look at another example, Emergence of the Masters. [...] c) Nakamuro XP can redirect either the "send home" or "destroy" part of EotM but for a different reason than part a). EotM produces only one spell effect. However, Nakamuro can only redirect one of the parts that targets a card in his army. This is due to an anomaly in the Space-Time Continuum that somehow allows each of the four parts of EotM to be "a spell effect" for Nakamuro's redirection ability but not a spell effect for putting the Ring of Air into play.
A: That would be right, yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 April 2002", 24 Apr 2002
