Rules Q&A
- Q: (1)When playing Engage the Enemy, can you target a personality with an unbowed item and no followers, bow the item and the personality with the same Engage the Enemy? It doesn't say bow two consecutive things, so I assumed that you had to have two legal targets when playing the card.
A: The bowing is not consecutive. Both targets have to be legal at the outset. You cannot bow an Item and then bow its Personality. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 April 2003", 4 Apr 2003 - Q: I could have swore Jeff Alexander ruled the opposite a few weeks ago; that bowing were effects that happened one at a time and so the aforementioned situation was legal.
A: Good thing you didn't swear on a Bible or anything. ;) Check Jeff Alexander's rules post of 5 November 2002 in the Yahoo groups archive or the Deathseeker archives. He made the same ruling I did.
And the moral of the story is: Memory cheats. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 1 January 2003", 1 Jan 2003 - Q: Engage the Enemy Battle: Bow and destroy one of your Tactician Personalities to bow up to two opposing cards. This may not target a personality with attached unbowed cards.
My question: when bowing two opposing cards (like a follower and the personality it's attached to), is this a simultaneous effect or two seperate actions for the purpose of the "may not target a personality with attached unbowed cards" part of the action?
A: It is simultaneous. You cannot target a Personality with unbowed attached cards, not even if he only has one and you're targeting it with the other bowing effect. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 November 2002", 6 Nov 2002 - Q: With Engage the Enemy, can one bow, for example, a follower and the personality in one go? That is, are the two cards targetted before either is bowed, or is one targetted and bowed and then the second?
A: Targets are chosen simultaneously. Engage the Enemy cannot bow both cards in a two-card unit together. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 December 2001", 12 Dec 2001
