Rules Q&A
- Q: If I target a Loyal personality with Discovering a Conspiracy, can I now take control of that personality with effects like Enticement or Yoritomo Sachina?
Relevant text:
Discovering a Conspiracy Battle/Open: Choose your performing unbowed Magistrate and target a Personality: His lord casts him out for treachery. Permanently remove his Clan alignment keywords. Dishonor him. If he is at a battlefield, bow him and choose a player, who gains or loses 1 Honor.
Yoritomo Sachina Political Limited: Once per game, target a Personality, pay Gold equal to his unit's total Gold Cost plus four, and bow Sachina: Take control of him. After the next time this game Sachina leaves play, give control of him to his owner.
Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
A: No, no-one may take control of him - and if he leaves play, his owner may not bring him into play.
See Glossary, Loyal: A Personality with the Loyal keyword will not become controlled by a player who does not share a Clan alignment with that Personality - either by bringing into play or by changing control.
A Personality with no Clan alignments cannot share a Clan alignment with a player. Alex Jones, "Discovering a Conspiracy + Yoritomo Sachina VS Loyal", 14 Sep 2011 - Q: hiho
what happens if a personality that has Champion of thunder attached is targeted by a unit sendhome action or an action that is only targetting the personality (eg favor, tsuruchi sanjo) and i use the reaction of the Champion of thunder.
Champion of thunder Thunder • Cavalry • Storm Rider Enters play paying 1 less Gold if you are a Mantis Clan player. Reaction: After another player's action targets a card in this unit: Negate the action's effects on this card. Battle: Ranged 6 Attack.
Favor Political Battle: Discard the Imperial Favor: Move a target attacking enemy unit home.
Sanjo Battle: Target a Personality with lower Personal Honor than Sanjo's Chi. Move him home.
I mean a follower cant stay alone at a battlefield or ?
same situation with Daigotsu Xp 3 and Enticement
Daigotsu Battle: Permanently give a target enemy personality with lower Chi Shadowlands. He succumbs to the Dark Lord's will. Take control of him (if you do so, he joins your army). If you now control him, destroy him after this battle ends.
Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
does he control the personality and do i control the follower ? and if so ... can i use the follower to perform a ranged 6 on one of his personalities (would be some kind of mutiny or ? ^^)
A: In both instances, the moving of the Follower or the changing of its control are not effects of the action, but rather effects of the rulebook, based upon the fact it is attached to the affected Personality. Champion of Thunder will negate no part the examples you gave. Brook Cunningham, "Champion of Thunder vs Favor/Daigotsu", 7 Sep 2011 - Q: What happens if I use Jeng-Yun on a personality then use Enticement on him? Can I attack with him?
A: No. "You may not assign his unit to attack" is the most recent effect and has priority. Zen Faulkes, "Enticement + Jeng-Yun", 15 Jun 2011 - Q: To clarify the question - I believe they are asking if the Enticed personality is allowed to be sacrificed as a cost of The Last One, and if so, if they count towards destroying 4 personalities for the effects of The Last One.
i.e. I have four Personalities. I Entice an enemy personality. I play the Last One on one of my non-Enticed personalities. Does he now have the advantages of The Last One?
A: If that is the question, again, "your" means "controlled by," not "owned." So The Last One does not care if a Personality taken form another player for either its costs or effects. Zen Faulkes, "The Last One + Enticement", 22 Apr 2011 - Q: In regards to this ruling: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83279
I get and understand the ruling, makes sense to me, I just have one question about it. At what point does the Loyal keyword copied onto Kyogen go away? I assume from the general rule that actions that have no defined time span are by default until end of turn. If so, doesn't Kyogen and Enticement then have the same ending time frame? And if they do have the same ending time frame, wouldn't then it be the active player's choice which resolves and ends first, thus giving the active player the possibility of removing "Loyal" from Kyogen and allowing Enticement to return him to his original owner? I may have easily missed a common sense point in all this, I am no rules lawyer but I was reading other rulings just before this and active player's choice in resolving actions made me think if the timing on this was accurate is all. Thank you very much for your time and thoughts.
A: Whoopsy. Look what got discussed then forgotten by the wayside due to merging threads! Apologies.
We decided that "Until the turn ends/end of the turn" is always after "Before the turn ends". "Until" by itself, is sort of a "when", or at least exists in some unique slot between "before" and "when", but we're SURE that it comes after "before".
Ahem.
So, there is no conflict; Kyogen's copying always ends after Enticement's return effect. No matter whose turn it is, a Loyal Kyogen will always fail to return from Enticement and then lose "Loyal" after that. Brook Cunningham, "Loyal Kyogen Enticement", 3 Nov 2010 - Q: Edited: already answered and the answer will be No.
My opponent has played The Last One on a Personality. I take the Last's Personality with Enticement. I play some kill card on him, for example, Power Corrupting.
Is The Last One Personality really destroyed? a) Yes b) No
The Last One Open: Target your Personality: Destroy all of your other Personalities. If this destroyed at least four Personalities, permanently give your targeted Personality +4F, and until the end of the game, negate effects of other player's actions that bow, dishonor, move, or destroy him.
Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
Power Corrupting Kiho • Maho Open: Target your unbowed Shugenja and destroy another of your target Personalities: Create a 7F/4C Shadowlands • Nonhuman • Oni Personality. Lose 3 Honor. Your Shugenja permanently gains Shadowlands.
A: The answer is yes, as long as the destruction is for a cost.
The Last One prevents other players' effects from killing him (remember that "other players" is interpreted from the point of view of the person who took the action) - but it doesn't stop other players destroying him to pay costs. Alex Jones, "The Last One + Enticement + some kill way", 3 Sep 2010 - Q: Can I play Arranged Guilt off a personality (Magistrate or Courtier) I have control of due to Enticement?
Arranged Guilt Strategy Gold Cost: 0 Political Limited: Dishonor and destroy your target unbowed Courtier or Magistrate Personality: Dishonor another player's target Personality. You, then that Personality's owner, each lose 3 Honor
Arranged Guilt Strategy Gold Cost: 0 Political Limited: Dishonor and destroy your target unbowed Courtier or Magistrate Personality: Dishonor another player's target Personality. You, then that Personality's owner, each lose 3 Honor
Thnx
A: Yes.
If the question is, "Does 'Your" mean I control it or own it?", generally the latter. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_X-Z Zen Faulkes, "Arranged Guilt + Enticement", 6 Jul 2010 - Q: Can I play Inexorable Defeat on a personality that I have used Enticement on, knowing that the movement will fail, just to lose the 2 honor and commit seppuku?
A: Yes.
If the question is, "Does 'Your" mean I control it or own it?", generally the latter. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_X-Z Zen Faulkes, "Inexorable Defeat + Enticement", 6 Jul 2010 - Q: I know you have ruled on this already but the CE15 rulebook makes me wonder if things have changed.
If Isawa Fosuta xp (unbowed) has Enticement played on him and is than bowed for his ability can the owner of the card straighten him?
The CE15 rulebook says that the owner of someone with the "may remained bowed" text is the controller of it. Is this rule from the CE15 rulebook for a trait or does it apply to actions as well?
A: It's for a trait, not an action.
You'll note, Fosuta's action doesn't even say "may remain bowed", it says you may negate his straightening.
So, the CE15 Rulebook definition definitely does not apply. Brook Cunningham, "Fosuta vs. CE15 rulebook", 11 May 2010 - Q: I don't seem to understand one thing. Kygoen can have the Loyal keyword due to his ability. But, he is loyal to no one. Ronin is not a clan, and neither is actor, so if he is enticed and then gains loyal, he is still not actually loyal to anyone and should not be effected by those rules. I just don't seem to understand how loyal can work on him.
A: Loyal doesn't work in the manner you're describing. It doesn't tie a Personality to a controller with whom he shares a Faction. Rather, it PREVENTS a Personality from becoming controlled by someone whose Faction he is does NOT share. As you said, he does not share a Faction with anyone. So, that means no one can take control of him (from his current controller) once he is given "Loyal". Brook Cunningham, "Loyal Kyogen Enticement", 4 May 2010 - Q: What happens if I entice Kyogen, and give him the loyal keyword?
1) Does he explode because Kyogen and I don't share a Clan Allignment? 2) Does he explode upon returning to his owner at the end of my turn, as they do not share clan allignments? 3) Do I keep him forever?
A: The correct answer is 3). His Loyal keyword will cause Enticement's delayed effect of returning him to his controller to fail. Brook Cunningham, "Loyal Kyogen Enticement", 2 May 2010 - Q: Furthermore, if option 3 is correct, does that further imply that I can never attack with my new Kyogen ever?
A: Nothing "implied" about it. Quite explicitly, you may not assign Kyogen to attack and he will not move to attack "while you control him". If you never stop controlling him, this ongoing effect never ends. Brook Cunningham, "Loyal Kyogen Enticement", 2 May 2010 - Q: I have a question in relation to the interactions of playing I do not die so easily as reaction to a personality being targeted by enticement or Daigotsu.
Player B plays enticement on Player A's Personality 1; in reaction Player A, plays I do not die so easily. As Player A's action, they lobby for the favor, (or some other action); Does, Personality 1, then die because of the triggered effect on I do not die so easily?
Question 2 is the same but during battle after Personality 1 has been targeted by Daigotsu, and Player performs any action (aside from pass).
Reaction: After another player's action targets your Personality during a battle: Negate his destruction from the action's effects. After the resolution of your next Battle action this battle, destroy him.
A: Underline is my point of order.
You cannot use I Do Not Die So Easily! in reaction to Enticement. Enticement is not usable during battle.
With Daigotsu exp 3, assuming you play a Battle action during that battle, your personality will be destroyed. Dan Jacobson, "I do not die so easily and Enticement/Daigotsu", 12 Apr 2010 - Q: Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
Seppuku Reaction: Any number of times per turn, before you lose Honor from an action that targeted or was performed by one of your Courtier or Samurai Personalities: He commits seppuku. If the seppuku destroyed him, reduce the Honor loss to one.
I'd been told this had been ruled on, but couldn't find it when I searched up Enticement.
Scenario A) I play Enticement, targeting my opponent's Personality A. In response to the honour loss, I seppukku (my opponent's) Personality A.
Scenario B) I play Enticement, targeting my opponent's Personality A. In response to the honour loss, my opponent seppukkus his Personality A.
Are either of the above acceptable outcomes, or is it accurate that at no point will somebody be able to seppukku an Enticement? My ruling was that neither of the above is possible.
A: You are correct. Neither scenario A nor B are legal plays.
Why?
A) The honor loss is Seppuku's trigger, and at the time it occurs for you, the Personality is not yours.
B) Seppuku triggers off "you" losing Honor. Your opponent does not lose honor, so he may not take the Seppuku Reaction. Brook Cunningham, "Enticement + Seppukku", 10 Apr 2010 - Q: If I use Enticement to take control of another player's Shiba Ningen (Experienced 3) during my turn, and then I use his ability to create a personality... (if) the personality I created is not destroyed, can the owner of the card use the ability again after he regains control of Ningen?
A: Yes.
A new player is not using the ability "again". Also, references to "you" checks who initiated that particular action. Precedent: Isawa Fosuta (Experienced):
viewtopic.php?f=59&t=81760 viewtopic.php?f=59&t=80891 viewtopic.php?f=59&t=79202 Zen Faulkes, "Shiba Ningen (exp3) and Enticement", 28 Mar 2010 - Q: Yoritomo Takara Battle/Open: Straighten your target Follower. Battle/Open: Transfer your target Follower to your target Personality.
Enticement: Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
Turn 1 Player A has a personality with a follower attached. Player B has Yoritomo Takara and pays Player's A unit cold cost and plays Enticement. Player B transfers Player's A Personality's Follower to Takara with her ability.
End of Turn Player's A personality goes back to it's owner. Question: Who keeps the follower? Player A or Player B?
Question 2: This same question would apply to items with Permanent Encampent if there's a battle. Question: Who keeps the attachment? Player A or Player B? Permanent Encampment Battle: Straighten your target attachment. You may transfer it to your target Personality.
Thanks in advance!
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Physically_mark ... rd_control: "An attached card in a unit is controlled by the unit’s Personality’s controller." Zen Faulkes, "Enticement vs Yoritomo Takara", 14 Feb 2010 - Q: During my opponent's turn, I target an opposing personality with Bayushi Jutsushi's Open action, then subsequently use Enticement to take control of the personality I targeted with Jutsushi. If my opponent then declares an attack against me and I assign the Enticed personality to defend, who loses the honor?
Bayushi Jutsushi: Political Open: Target a Personality with Personal Honor lower than Jutsushi's Chi. After the next time the Personality's unit assigns this turn, dishonor him, and his controller loses 2 Honor.
Enticement: Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. While you control him, you may not assign his unit to attack and he will not move to attack. Before this turn ends, give control of him to his owner.
A: You are the controller. You would lose 2 honor if you assign a person you control (whether through Enticement or whatever else) to defend. Dan Jacobson, "Bayushi Jutsushi + Enticement", 2 Feb 2010 - Q: It is my turn. I play Enticement on Soshi Spud Can I play Ambush using the Enticed Soshi Spud? Assuming Yes, I also assume that Soshi Spud won't actually assign due to Enticements wording. Correct? Can I then Seppuku Soshi Spud in response to the honor loss? (Seppuku to Ambush normally OK as per http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=72381)
Many thanks
http://www.l5rsearch.com/db/search.cgi?title=enticement Enticement Open: Pay Gold equal to the total Gold Cost of the targeted Personality's unit: Lose 3 Honor. Take control of a target Personality. http://www.l5rsearch.com/db/search.cgi?cmd=detail&card_id=2414 Ambush Limited: Target your unbowed Personality: Create a battlefield (not at any province). Assign your Personality's unit to attack there. Assign another player’s target unit to defend there, even if its Personality is bowed. Other units will not move there. Fight a battle there (after this action's resolution). After the battle ends, lose 5 Honor.
A: Ambush requires you to target your unbowed Personality. It does not require you to target a Personality who can assign.
See "May not": Targeting, however, is independent from any other choices that follow it.
So: you may play Ambush targeting the Enticed Soshi Spud. Soshi Spud won't assign. Soshi Spud may then Seppuku. Alex Jones, "Ambush using an Enticed Personality", 29 Jan 2010
