- Even as the fires of the Last Wish consumed him, Matsu Shinya did not fall. His blade cut the air inches from Aikune's face. The Phoenix looked into the samurai's eyes as he died, and knew that in the Lion Clan he found a worthy foe.

- Erratum: Reads, "Faith in My Clan 0G 3FV Reaction: Cancel an action. Play this card only if a Clan Champion from your Faction is in your army in the current battle." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 16
Rules Q&A
- Q: Can I destroy an opposing card and then Faith In My Clan the return stroke [of Isawa's Last Wish]?
A: No. Faith in My Clan says, "Cancel an action." It must be played at the first opportunity, not when the action is halfway through resolving. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 July 2004", 18 Jul 2004 - Q: I refer to the following blanket reaction, which has no limitation that I can see for 'at which segment' within the action taking process that it can be played:
Example: Faith in My Clan: Reaction: Cancel an action. Play this card only if a Clan Champion from your Faction is in your army in the current battle.
A: Faith in my Clan, Kyuden Ikoma, etc. are played as a "when" timing in response to when an Action is considered to be "taken." They'll happen before the "after" timing of Ring of Air and Ring of Water, preventing them from being played.
"Reactions played in response to an action (e.g., Faith In My Clan, Kyuden Ikoma) must be played before the action produces any effects (e.g., Fear, a Ranged Attack) or has one of its effects modified (e.g., The Face of Fear, Arrows From the Woods). [JA, 8 December 2003, ZF, 10 December 2003]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Timing") Martin Lund, "Rules for 25 June 2004", 28 Jun 2004 - Q: 2 - If I have a Clan Champion in the battle and my opponent plays Superior Strategist, can I Faith in My Clan the subsequent action or does it have to hit the Superior Strategist?
A: You can cancel the subsequent action. Superior Strategist instructs the player using it to gain an additional action to play the retrieved Battle or Open Action. You can React to such a play like any other play. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 Jun 2004 - Q: If its True, therefore, it is legal to Cancel a Terrain(being played in a battle) by KYUDEN IKOMA or FAITH IN MY CLAN. Right?
A: Right. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 24 March 2004", 26 Mar 2004 - Q: Can the shugenja in question cast another spell this turn? Does it matter how the spell is cancelled (e.g. Kyuden Ikoma, Faith in My Clan, Flee the Darkness)?
A: Yes, no. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 26 Feb. 2004", 27 Feb 2004 - Q: Player A wants to attach Travelling Ronin during battle. Player B plays Faith in My Clan. What happens to the Ronins?
Back to hand (Diamond rules, pg. 72).
How does the traveling Ronin go back to the player's hand?
A: Because that's what the rules say. "If canceled, the player returns the card to where it came from." Again, that's written in the Diamond rulebook, pg. 72. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 December 2003", 17 Dec 2003 - Q: Player A wants to attach Travelling Ronin during battle. Player B plays Faith in My Clan. What happens to the Ronins?
A: Back to hand (Diamond rules, pg. 72). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 16 December 2003, Part 3", 17 Dec 2003 - Q: Sorry Jeff, but your last post not explain nothing to me.
1- the criterion for playing Faith In My Clan is to have a clan champion of my faction in my army. Is IRRELEVANT that my army is an attacking or defending army. Right?
A: The card says nothing about attacking/defending. Right. Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 November 2002", 13 Nov 2002 - Q: Faith In My Clan can be played if you have an army anywhere on the board that contains one of your Clan Champions. It can't cancel a Rally after the very last battle, but it might be able to cancel one at an earlier battle.
Jeff I don't understand why: It can't cancel a Rally after the very last battle
A: You're right. I was speaking of the general case as if it were the only case. There are rare situations where you can still have an army somewhere as the Attacker after the last battle has resolved, and in those cases, the criterion for playing Faith In My Clan may be satisfied. Sorry for the confusion. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 November 2002", 12 Nov 2002 - Q: Apparently this happened at Gencon UK and was ruled legal, so I want to be sure.
Bob the Crab attacks Steve the Mantis. Steve has a Clan Champion out. Bob attacks province A. Steve defends province B, with his Clan Champion in the army. When battle A is resolved, can Steve play Faith In My Clan to cancel Bob's Rallying Cry?
A: Already answered. Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: Here's one that I'm pretty sure has been answered before, but I couldn't find it, so here goes:
Relevant card text:
Faith in My Clan: You may play this card only if a Clan Champion from your Faction is in your army.
Reaction: Cancel an Action
Kuni Utagu Exp Crab Clan Jade Champion
So, does Utagu meet the requirement for Faith In My Clan?
A: No. A Personality is only a Clan Champion if it has the "Clan Champion" or "XXX Clan Champion" traits together. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 August 2002", 28 Aug 2002 - Q: Following on the idea that all allies who join one side comprise an army....
If I am playing Faction A, and another player in my army happens to have a Faction A Champion in play at the current battle or another battle, may I play Faith in My Clan even though I do not control that Champion? Even if that Champion is at a separate battle?
A: Let's read the card:
"You may play this card only if a Clan Champion from your Faction is in your army. Reaction: Cancel an action."
Does the Clan Champion have to belong to you? No. It doesn't say it has to.
Does the Clan Champion need to be in the current battle? No, just in one of your armies somewhere. An ARMY is yours if A) it's the attacking army and you're the Attacker, B) it's the defending army and you're the Defender, or C) you have one or more units in it. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 June 2002", 12 Jun 2002 - Q: 3) Do Kuni Utagu xp1 and Yasuki Hachi xp1 count as Champions for their clan for the use of Faith in My Clan?
A: They are Champions, but they are not Clan Champions. This is true no matter how their Factions change. You need a Clan Champion for Faith In My Clan. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 May 2002", 23 May 2002 - Q: Hi list, hi rules gurus!
When rading the new card "Faith in My Clan" I had an idea and wanted to know if it is in accordance with the rules.
Scenario:
1.I have a peep inplay who reads: X Clan Champion 8with me playing clan Y) 2. On my tirn I play "Oath of fealthy, aligning the aforementioned peep to my clan.
Now the question: Will the peep now be an Y clan champion, thereby allowing me to use "Faith in my Clan" when he id assigned to a battle? From reading the cards I would say yes, thougn it is not very logical to say that the e.g. the Crab Champion becomes the Crane Champion somply because he is "adopted" into the Crane Clan. On the othe hand it seems quite logical that say e.g. a Jade Champion (again possibly a Crab in the expierienced Utagu) would lose his Jade Champion trait simply because he became say a Crane.
2nd question: Is a Daimyo (Exp. 2 Morito comes to mind) the same as a champion?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 April 2002", 9 Apr 2002 - Q: My opponent is the defender and brings Suboto into play in the current battle. I have a clan champion there and I play faith in my clan to cancel the action. What happens to Suboto?
A: Not a lot. See Diamond rules, pg. 72. Zen Faulkes, "Faith in My Clan + Shinjo Suboto", 14 Mar 2005 - Q: I don't remember if this was asked... does Tanuki Clan Champion count for cards like "Faith in my clan" ?
A: No, Waietto is not a "Clan Champion" for cards that look for that keyword. Since Samurai Edition, all keywords on a card are inseparable, unless physically separated by a bullet or line break. So, his subtitle, which also counts as a keyword, makes him a "Tanuki Clan Champion" but he is not a "Tanuki" nor a "Clan Champion". Brook Cunningham, "Onyx Lives #rules-questions", 31 Jan 2026 - Q: Are reactions considered an "action"? For OBH.
Card in question, "Faith in my Clan". Can it cancel reactions or interrupt?
A: Yes, Reactions and Interrupts are actions. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 7 Feb 2025
