Rules Q&A
- Q: Fall Back!: Move home your target Personality. As he moves, straighten his unit and you may straighten one of your other units (at any location).
Brazen Disregard: Absent Interrupt: If the action is from a Strategy, negate any movement from its effects.
Since i am not a native Speaker this could be a stupid question:
If Brazen Disregard is used on Fall Back the straighening part does not happen for the first target. What happens to the second one?
A: It does not straighten the second target either. "As he moves" is the trigger for both straightening effects, so if he does not move, they do not straighten. Jon Palmer, "Fall Back! vs. Brazen Disregard", 9 Apr 2015 - Q: I'm unclear about the reaction timing in the following situation. Could you please explain what happens and why?
At a battlefield I have two ninjas, one of whom has an attached flawless assassin. The flawless assassin is bowed. I use Fall Back! to move the ninja without the flawless home, and straighten the unit remaining at the battlefield with the flawless. Can the flawless now react to the movement or is too late?
Flawless Assassin: Ninja Limited: Give a target Personality without a Poison token a -1F Poison token. Reaction: After one of your Personalities moves to or from this unit's location, if this unit has no non-Ninja Personalities or Followers: Move this unit to any location.
Fall Back! Text Battle: Move your target Personality home. If he moved, straighten his unit, and you may straighten one of your other units.
Thank you!
A: After Fall Back straightens Flawless, it is too late to take its reaction to Fall Back's previous moving effect. Brook Cunningham, "Flawless Assassin + Fall Back!", 18 Sep 2010 - Q: I searched and saw a ruling on Fall Back. It was stated that the straightening could be anywhere. I was wondering if you could explain it a little better to me. As I understand it, due to the rule of location Battle actions must come from cards at the current battle and effect cards at that battle, unless specified it could be "at any location." Is this a loophole to the rules because it does say "target" in the second part of the card? Can other cards work this way? Can Yogo Rieko be at a battle and straighten anyone anywhere? Sorry for the confusion it just seems like this card goes against the rules and I dont see why. Thanks.
A: Fall Back! Battle: Move your target Personality home. If he moved, straighten his unit, and you may straighten one of your other units.
Rule of Location: A card in a unit must be at the current battlefield to be targeted by, or explicitly perform, a Battle action.
Emphasis added: because the second sentence of Fall Back! doesn't say "target", it is not subject to the Rule of Location, so you may choose your unit at any location. Alex Jones, "Fall Back", 20 Jun 2010 - Q: Fall Back: Battle: Move your target Personality home. If he moved, straighten his unit, and you may straighten one of your other units.
Can the italicized text straighten a unit at:
1) The current battlefield?
2) Your home?
3) A different battlefield?
Mouth
A: Yes to all three.
Notice, the straightening effect doesn't target, so it can't run afoul of the Rule of Location. Brook Cunningham, "Fall Back and straightening location", 25 Oct 2009
