Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Famous Bazaar 2G Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold. After this card enters play from a province: Refill the province face-up." [MRP, Celestial Edition, 29 June 2009] Comprehensive Rules, Celestial Edition, with specific card rulings, final version, February 2012, p. 132
Rules Q&A
- Q: There is a rule for provinces that says Some effects may make it possible for a province to hold more than one Dynasty card. If that happens, effects that happen to “the Dynasty card” in a province happen to a Dynasty card chosen by the province’s owner. So I assume it is not illegal to have 2 cards in provinces.
So if Famous Bazaar enters play from Temple to Tsukune, do I get to place 2 face up cards in the same province at the same time?
[Mod edit: Formatting. Take it easy on bolding, underlining, alt the like. Thanks! -ZF]
A: No.
The type of card effect referred to by "Some effects may make it possible for a province to hold more than one Dynasty card" is Plains of Otosan Uchi's "This Province holds two Dynasty cards."
An effect that says "Refill this province face-up" means that after the dynasty card is placed in the province, it is turned face-up: it does not allow you to place another card into a province that already holds a dynasty card. Alex Jones, "Temple to Tsukune + Famous Bazaar", 21 Apr 2010 - Q: Many effects include refilling provinces face-up (ie Border Keep, Famous Bazaar... among others), but when do the cards refilled in this manner turn face-up? Are they already face-up when they are laid on the province (therefore, Inada's trait wouldn't trigger), or is the province refilled, then the card turns face-up (and then Inada is dishonored)?
A: Daidoji Inada's trigger WILL occur when a province is "refilled face-up" with him.
When a card "refills a province face-up", its entering the province and turning face-up are simultaneous. This is effectively the same as turning face-up while already having been in the province previously. Brook Cunningham, "Daidoji Inada and refilling face-up", 12 Jul 2009 - Q: I purchase a Famous Bazaar and refill its province with a face-up Otomo Shishi. What is Shishi's gold cost?
Otomo Shishi Unaligned Economic Advisor. Toturi's Army When you bring a Holding into play, if Shishi is face-up in one of your Provinces, Shishi costs 0 Gold until the turn ends.
Famous Bazaar Bow this card: Produce 2 Gold. After this card enters play from a province: Refill the province face-up.
A: Shishi's cost is not reduced for having purchased the Famous Bazaar.
Until such time as an erratum can bring older cards like him in line with newer ones, wherein his triggered (essentially) trait would have a more appropriate "After" timing, you should play it as it reads. That is, "When" you bring a Holding into play would precede Bazaar's "After" timing, and it would be too late for Shishi to trigger in your example.
