Rulings
- Q: How much does Fantastic Gardens cost for a Kosaten Shiro player? A: 6 Gold. The text about Fantastic Gardens costing a Crane player 5 Gold is a change, because it results in a cost that's different from the printed value of 7. Because it's a change, the Stronghold's text prevents it. The Imperial Herald, Issue 17, p. 40
Rules Q&A
- Q: Does the Crane Sronghold Kostan Shiro prevent Fantastic Gardens from costing 2 less gold for crane players? does the same go with diadoji merchants?
A: Yes and yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 May 2003", 22 May 2003 - Q: Example : We are under In Time of War and I have 15 honor. I play "Even More Beautiful Hanabi" to Gain 8 Honor. My honor total is raised by Five, to 20. Correct ? My opponent Deeds me. Being kind of stupid, I use my Fantastic Gardens and Lose 2 Honor. Since I had already three "excess honor", I would in fact stay at my current Honor total, 20, -with one "excess honor" still ? Correct ?
A: Correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: As a side note... Jon raised some valid points about the power of YP for Crane... the 5Gold for items, Fantastic Gardens, etc... it also makes me wonder if there is bias amongst the playtesters/designers/whomever that would build a box for "two factions" and yet it appears because of FG that it favors Crane over Crab.
A: Actually, there was a bit of worry that the Crane players would be annoyed at being offered a chump prize that was measurably inferior to something they already have (Kosaten Shiro), whereas Crab could actually use it to make different and potentially better decks. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 October 2001", 4 Oct 2001 - Q: Does Taeruko override Kaiu Walls(ala Fantastic Gardens/Kosaten)?
A: No. Kosaten Shiro specifically says that no other modifications will apply to the cost of the holding. Taeruko just has a note about paying all costs, something that probbly wouldn't be there if she hadn't had a previous version that reduced costs. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for July 27th", 27 Jul 2001 - Q: 2/ Kosaten Shiro reduces gold and honour producing holdings by 1 gold, but the costs cannot be reduced further. Fantastic Gardens normally cost 7, but cost 5 for a Crane - does that count as a reduction, or is it the base cost? (ie: will it cost 6,5, or 4, assuming KS is in play?)
A: It costs 6. This is something that people still have problems with, but essentialy the KS reduction overrides any other reductions that would be applied to your holdings. The 'costs 5 for Crane' counts as a reduction, so KS will override it. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for November 13th", 13 Nov 2000
