Rules Q&A
- Q: Furumaro (relevant text) Reaction: Before an action destroys Furumaro: Negate his destruction.
Daigotsu Eiya non-xp (relevant text) After Eiya enters play: Lose 3 Honor. All duels involving Eiya destroy the duel's loser.
Flame and Lightning Limited: Choose your performing unbowed Personality and target another player's Personality: Your Personality duels the target. Permanently remove all abilities and traits from the duel's loser.
Assume I play F&L using Eiya targeting Furumaro (on my turn) - and win the duel
Do I get to choose the sequence of effects so as to remove his Reaction ability first, then destroy him (in such a way that the the ability can't be used)?
A: Upon looking at Daigotsu Eiya, it was decided his trait could use some more modernizing for clarity. So, it now looks a lot more like Kakita Ichigiku's.
Now, this does mean that you don't get to choose the order, because the implication from "additional" in Ichigiku's and (now) Eiya's trait is that the destruction occurs after the duel's normal consequences for losing. However, this does work out the way you want (if you're not Furumaro's controller ), in that Furumaro's ability would indeed be removed before he could use it to save himself. Brook Cunningham, "Flame and Lightning, Daigotsu Eiya, Furumaro", 19 Sep 2012 - Q: Daigotsu and Furumaro are both at a battlefield and Daigotsu targets Furumaro with his battle ability and takes control of Furumaro. Can the player who now controls Furumaro use his reaction "after this battle ends" to keep Furumaro alive and maintain control of him?
A: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Physically_mark ... rd_control: "Changing control... does not have a duration." Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Diagotsu's battle ability on furumaro", 28 Jul 2010 - Q: (C)an Furumaro use his Reaction in the action phase after Sieden sanzo targets and resolves on him? Or does he HAVE to use his reaction at the point of his actual destruction occuring?
A: The Reaction can only be taken when the destruction actually tries to occur, as per card text. There is no option in when it is legal to respond to a trigger.
Note, though, that a Reaction never has to be taken. Just clarifying that, in case someone thought the phrasing of the question meant that the Reaction always had to be used. Zen Faulkes, "Furumaro and Sieden Sanzo", 4 May 2010 - Q: Furumaro is targeted by Drinking One's Life (or Isawa Fosuta) and receives his 4th +1F/-1C token. Will his ability to negate his own destruction keep him alive until the end of the turn(?)
A: Yes. The wording in those two cases are parallel. Zen Faulkes, "Furumaro vs Drinking One's Life", 19 Apr 2010 - Q: Two part question: concerning gold costs. If I have Shiryo no Yogo in play, my ninja cost 2 less gold. This is worded differently than Furumaro. Does this mean that cards checking for gold cost like Imperial census will bow an 8 gold personality now, because their gold cost is boxable?
A: Yes. The Gold Cost reduction from Shiryo no Yogo is continuous, not just when paying for the Ninja to enter play. Brook Cunningham, "Legacy ninjutsu gold cost", 17 Apr 2010 - Q: I'm still a little unsure about how Furumaro interacts with delayed kill effects. I get that the action window closes for someone like Udo to be able to react off of Mountains of the Phoenix or The Dead Do Not Rest. The problem I'm having is that Furumaro doesn't refer to an actions resolution.
Furumaro has Reaction: Before an action destroys Furumaro: Negate his destruction.
Udo has Maho Reaction: After the resolution of an action that destroyed a Follower or Personality: Create a 2F/2C/0PH Shadowlands • Undead Personality at Udo's location
Is the resolution part implied and prevent Furumaro from using his react on delayed effects, or, can he react to a delayed kill effect, due to the omission of the 'after resolution?'
Thank you
A: The timing of the destruction effect (delayed or not) is irrelevant. Only the source is (is it from an action?).
Furumaro's Reaction works fine with delayed effects. Zen Faulkes, "Furumaro", 17 Mar 2010
