Rules Q&A
- Q: Hello. We need help to clear up how this card works please. Most of the cards that negate force penalties on Emperor Edition are worded as "Negate all current and new Force penalties to him from actions." (Games of Will, Tireless Effort).
Path to Inner Peace reads Bow this card and target a Personality: Negate all Force penalties on him and other players' cards' effects that prevent him from performing actions.
Now, since the effect of path to inner peace lasts until the end of turn, will to also negate future force penalties which the target personality will receive?
Thank you.
A: The wording "Negate all current and new..." dates from a time when negation worked slightly differently. We still used that wording for some cards in Emperor Edition, however, probably out of habit - it took us a while to realise the "current and new" wasn't actually needed.
Path to Inner Peace will indeed negate both current and new effects. See Duration and Scope of Prevention Effects: Continuous and ongoing effects that came into being before a relevant prevention effect was applied are still affected by it, by default. Continuous and ongoing effects that came into being after a relevant prevention effect was applied are also affected by it while the prevention lasts, by default.
