Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Garrison 1G Fortification. You are considered to have a defending unit at this Province for taking actions during battle. Bringing the Garrison into play during battle is considered bringing a unit into the battle." [MRP, Gold Edition, 1 July 2001] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 81
- Only acts as a unit for the Rule of Presence. [ZF, 28 April 2002] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 81
- The imaginary unit that Garrison creates doesn't contribute to the defending forces in any way. It cannot be targetted or affected by other cards. It has no stats and does not count as an army when it's by itself. The only time it matters is when you're deciding whether a certain action can be played. [DW, personal email, 2/20/98] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 28
- Erratum: Changed: gold cost is now <1>, not <0>. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 12
- Clarified: the imaginary unit only counts in determining the eligibility of players to perform actions during battle. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 12
- Q: Garrison says that I'm always considered to have a unit in its battle. Can it be sent home? What's its Force? A: The units provided by Garrison and Whispers of the Land aren't really there. They can't be targetted or affected by anything and they don't contribute to your army. You only consider them when deciding whether it's legal to play an action. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 10
- Scorpion Clan Coup: Q: Garrison says that I'm always considered to have a unit in its battle. Can it be sent home? Challenged? What's its Force? A: The units provided by Garrison and Whispers of the Land aren't really there. They can't be targeted or affected by anything and they don't contribute to your army. You only consider them when deciding whether it's legal to play an action. The Imperial Herald, Issue 9, p. 10
