Rules Q&A
- Q: I just bought a gold ed. booster and i got a ghedai, which at the bottom reads "Naga shugenja-nonhuman, Battle: bow Ghedai to move one of your units from one defenders provinces to another." I was wondering what clan this card belongs to if any.
A: He belongs to the Naga Faction. A list of Factions is in the rulebook on pages 34-35. The full list is used in all games, even in tournament formats where some Factions have no legally-playable Strongholds. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 July 2002", 1 Aug 2002 - Q: Can Ghedai use his ability to bring a unit into an empty (neither player has presence there) battle?
A: Yes, if and only if it's the one being resolved. Bringing one of your own units into the current battle satisfies both Presence and Relevance. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 June 2002", 6 Jun 2002 - Q: Ghedai Ho/Co/PH: 0/5/1 Naga Shugenja. Battle: Bow Ghedai to move any one of your units from one of the defender's Provinces to another. F/C: 1/2 Type: personalities
I'd think not, since his action satisfies both relevence and presence.
A: You mean "I'd think so", don't you? Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 June 2002", 6 Jun 2002 - Q: Someone I played recently told me that there was a ruling that he had to be in the battle to use his ability, but I checked the Archive under Ghedai and couldn't find anything.
A: He's getting confused by the ruling on Bayushi Paneki Exp. and Hitomi Kagetora Exp. They only have to be in the battle because they both say "this battle". Ghedai does not. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 June 2002", 6 Jun 2002 - Q: If Ghedai is at Province #1 and Personality X is at Province #2, while the battle at Province #3 is currently being resolved, can Ghedai move Personality X into Province #3? Or can Ghedai only move himself into the Battle at Province #3?
A: Ghedai can legally move Personality X (what expansion is he from, by the way?) from Province 2 to Province 3, even if he himself is in Province 1 (or at home, even). An action satisfies Presence if it gives you a unit in the battle, and satisfies Relevance by moving a unit into the battle. Ghedai's action does both. S'okay.
