Rules Q&A
- Q: Let's say I manage to copy Bayushi Jin'E's ability (with Fukuzo).
Ninja Open, w: Give a target Personality and Jin-e each a -1F/-1C Poison token.
Now, if Fukuzo has a Gift Armor attached, does it mean he will only get -1F?
I think yes, and nothing I found on this forum made me think I was wrong...
Did I miss something?
A: The Gift Armor doesn't change the fact that you're receiving a -1F/-1C token.
It will negate the penalty from the token as long as its attached, but should you lose the Gift Armor while still having the token, the penalty will assert itself. Brook Cunningham, "Gift Armor and -1/-1", 21 Nov 2013 - Q: Hello Rules Team,
I searched for "Gift Armor", "Gift Armor negate", and "Gift Armor Inexorable" regarding this, but while I found topics close to this I didn't find any exactly on this, so I'd appreciate your counsel.
Let's say I have Gift Armor attached to my Personality and my opponent plays a "destroy" card, like Cast Aside the Weak. Gift Armor's trait activates in response. Can my opponent respond to the Trait by playing Inexorable? This would depend entirely on if the Trait is considered an announced reaction or if it was...well, something else. I can't put my finger on the terminology (nor am I sure what to search for in the EE Rules), but you know what I'm getting at.
I'm thinking the answer is "No, they can't", but I would like your confirmation, one way or another.
Thanks!

A: No.
Traits are not Reactions. Alex Jones, "Gift Armor vs. Inexorable", 2 Mar 2013 - Q: Hi Rules guys,
When a personality is equipped with both Gift Armor and Cursed Relic, does the Personality's Chi remain as is when using Cursed Relic's Battle actions because of Gift Armor? Or is this not a legal play because a cost cannot be paid because Gift Armor negates Chi penalties?
Cursed Relic Battle: Any number of times per turn, give this Personality -1C: Ranged 3 Attack Battle: Bow this card, give this Personality -1C, and target an enemy card without attachments: Remove it from the game.
Gift Armor Negate all current and new Chi penalties on this Personality. Negate any destruction of this card, except for its Personality being destroyed.
A: No, unfortunately the negation of the chi penalty will prevent the cost on Cursed Relic from being paid. Jon Palmer, "Cursed Relic and Gift Armor", 21 Jan 2012 - Q: First for clarification, is the -1C from Cursed Relic a penalty, a cost, or both?
A: Both. Brook Cunningham, "Cursed Relic + Gift Armor", 22 Dec 2011 - Q: With that in mind, if the personality that has Cursed Relic also has Gift Armor equipped, can he legally announce either of Cursed Relic's abilities?
A: In fact, he cannot. Brook Cunningham, "Cursed Relic + Gift Armor", 22 Dec 2011 - Q: I have a personality equipped with Gift Armor (or some item that negates Chi penalties). I target my Oni and play Drinking One's Life on the personality with Gift Armor so that at the start of each player's turn he would normally receive a +1F/-1C token.
Does Gift Armor prevent the placement of the token itself, or just the -1C effect of the token?
A: Just the effect. Brook Cunningham, "Drinking One's Life and Chi Penalty negation", 29 Apr 2010 - Q: The end result being that as long as the Gift Armor remains in play on the personality targeted with Drinking One's Life (and the Oni remains in play) he would continue to gain tokens and only be affected by the +1F part of the token and not the -1C part of the token.
A: Yes, that's correct.
Poor thirsty Oni. ( ) Brook Cunningham, "Drinking One's Life and Chi Penalty negation", 29 Apr 2010 - Q: Hida Daizu (Experienced) has used his reaction last turn and is now on 2 Chi. If I attach Gift Armor (or another item which negates chi penalties) and next action share the armor to another personality, is Daizu's chi back to his base chi or does he still have the -2 chi penalty?
[Mod edit: Abbreviations removed. -ZF]
A: After removing the Gift Armor, Daizu's Chi penalty from before attaching it would still be gone.
His permanent penalty is ongoing. Gift Armor's negation is continuous.
http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Duration_of_negation_effects: "Continuous negation effects (such as the non-triggered trait “This card can not gain Force bonuses” on a card in play) negate all relevant instantaneous, ongoing and continuous effects while the negation effect applies. If such an effect ceases to apply, ongoing effects do not reassert themselves, but continuous effects do." Brook Cunningham, "Hida Daizu (Experienced) and Gift Armor", 17 Dec 2008 - Q: It's said here that tokens are continous effects.
A personality with a Resilient Naginata or Gift Armor is immune to Muketsu xp's -2 Chi tokens, as the chi penality is continually negated. If either item is transfered away, however, the chi penalty from the token would reassurt itself, would it not?
A: You know, it strikes me as rather impolite to ask a question and then answer it yourself. What am I even doing here? ( ) Brook Cunningham, "Continual Negation and tokens", 7 Jun 2008 - Q: Hello, I had a little debate with a friend on these two brand new Honors Veil's items.
They both say "Negate all Chi penalties on this Personality.", I was wondering if Hida Daizu exp could use his ability with one of these items (considering he is unbowed and at the same location of the personality being destroyed), and if he could use it, if the action effect is negated because of his cost's negation.
Thanks

A: No, he may not. If the cost is negated, then the cost is not paid.
This is nearly identical to the question about Bayushi Tomo and her chi reduction being negated, see Marty Lund's response here. Doruk Özaydın, "Hida Daizu exp and Resilient Naginata/Gift Armor", 28 Feb 2008
