Rules Q&A
- Q: What I was suggesting is that you could destroy Glick to pay the cost of an action, and then use his own reaction to destroy *another* goblin card in order to keep Glick alive.
A: Ah. I see. That works. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 August 2003, Part 2", 23 Aug 2003 - Q: let's say you have an action (such as casting "I Give You My Name") that requires the destruction of a personality as a cost. If you have a reaction like "Glick" or "Feign Death" that simply reacts to the destruction by bringing the personality back, can you do that and still bring the Oni into play via the spell?
A: Glick does not react to the destruction of another card; the destruction of another goblin is a cost. You cannot pay two costs at once.
Feign Death, as currently worded, works, because the Personality is destroyed, thus satisfying the original cost. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 August 2003", 22 Aug 2003 - Q: Say I am playing a phoenix deck, and have a Shiba Takeshi in play, together with 2 Glick, whom have been Oath'ed to join the phoenix. Next I cast inspiration on the 2 Glick, and then kill one of them. Does this mean that Shiba Takeshi will get a billion Force and Chi?
A: <snip> Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 13th, 2003", 13 Aug 2003 - Q: Should you manage to get one (or more) Shiba Takeshi's in play, plus two Glick's, plus two Inspiration's, I'd suggest declaring a finite number of times that you choose to resolve the "infinite" combo. Perform the loop that many times, and then move on with the game.
I remember that Jeff rulled this to be impossible, basicaly because Glick returns into play already bowed, ie does not bow to return into play, nor returns into play and bows...
A: I can't find that ruling anywhere. *However*, it's probably correct. Cards are neither bowed nor unbowed in the discard pile, they're just dead. So, Jeff's right, I'm wrong. Glick brings himself back into play bowed, just like a Holding enters play from your provinces bowed. It never enters play straightened and then bows, it just comes into play bowed.
There goes my Infinite Combo Award. :( Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 13th, 2003", 13 Aug 2003 - Q: Say I am playing a phoenix deck, and have a Shiba Takeshi in play, together with 2 Glick, whom have been Oath'ed to join the phoenix. Next I cast inspiration on the 2 Glick, and then kill one of them. Does this mean that Shiba Takeshi will get a billion Force and Chi?
A: No. He will gain +1/+1 every time that a Glick dies, and you will lose 3 honor every time a Glick re-enters play, until you lose enough honor to put you at -20, out of the game (or -14 if No Mercy has resolved). The card you're looking for is Political Distraction:
Political Distraction * 4g * 1 Focus * This action has a zero gold cost for Scorpion and Crane players. Political Limited: Lose 2 honor. Until the beginning of your next turn, all honor losses are reduced to zero.
You're welcome.
