Rules Q&A
- Q: Unexpected Strike: End all ongoing effects of one Event that has already resolved.
Goemon's Ascension: This card remains in play in your home. [...]
A: [MARTY] Unexpected Strike has no effect whatsoever on Goemon's Ascension. Goemon's Ascension produces no on-going effects from its resolution.
- Marty Lund Deputy Rules Monkey Martin Lund, "Rules for 14 September 2004", 17 Sep 2004 - Q: Do the new events like Goemon's Ascension that remain in play until used count as an 'ongoing effect' of an event that has been resolved for the purposes of Unexpected Strike?
A: Being put into play isn't an on-going effect. It is a one-shot sort of thing. Events that remain in play merely avert the "immediately discarded" rule that normally sweeps events into your Discard Pile. Once you're past that specific instance, the Event remains in play until an effect says to remove it from play in some manner. Unexpected Strike will not discard Goemon's Ascension.
Of course, if they have any sort of on-going effect (not to be confused with effects of a Trait that is continuously applied while the event is in play) produced when they resolved initially, those will be ended. Martin Lund, "Rules for 30 August 2004", 3 Sep 2004
