Rules Q&A
- Q: So what happens if I have a dead Wandering Monk and I use Speak with the Voices of the Dead targetting, oh say, Goju Adorai (will only join a ninja player)?
Do I bow Adorai to draw a card and then he spins rapidly around the table trying to find someone to join before arriving back at me?
A: The transfer of control and movement into his home don't happen, and you'd end up simply drawing a card. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 April 2002", 2 Apr 2002 - Q: Goju Adorai If Adorai's Controller uses Ambush, Iaujutsu Challenge, Hidden Blade or Something similar, is he considered to have targeted the player or his cards in that turn? What about cards Like Face of the Nameless?
A: Good question. Since Adorai has no abilities in and of himself, I don't see how his card in particular can target anything in 99.5% of all games. I'm going to make a Designer's Intent ruling here: it applies to any actions he performs. That covers Hidden Blade and Face of the Nameless.
By that definition, Ambush and Iaijutsu Challenge still won't count, since Adorai doesn't bow in order to play them, but that's because "perform" has got to be the single most poorly-defined term in the entire game and there is NO way to codify it that makes sense across even close to all of the existing card base. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 18 March 2001", 24 Mar 2001 - Q: 6.- My Goju Adorai 4/4 gets a -2 chi penalty for that "The First Scroll is Opened". Later, I copy the ninja with "The Egg of Pan-Ku". Has the Egg 4 or 2 chi?
A: 2. The First Scroll is Opened creates a permanent change. The Egg copies permanent changes. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 6 March 2001", 18 Mar 2001
