Rules Q&A
- Q: Power of Strength: Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Personality with 7 or higher base Force and target two enemy Personalities, each with unit Gold Cost lower than your performer's Gold Cost: Bow one of them. Ranged Attack with strength equal to the first target's Force, which may only target the other Personality (if legal).
Goju Sawaki: Reaction: After another player's Battle action targets Sawaki, destroy him: Create two 1F/1C/0PH Spider Clan • Shadowlands • Ninja Personalities at the current battlefield.
I target Sawaki and a 7G unit with an 11G unit performing Power of Strength. Sawaki splits at the targeting, but before I choose which target bows or gets hit by the ranged attack. What happens?
A) Sawaki split personalities are not targets of the action and I only get a bowed personality. B) Sawaki split personalities are considered Sawaki for the purposes of the target (the personalities have 0G are still valid per the card's targeting restrictions). C) I don't know because L5R is hard.
A: A - you targeted Sawaki, not the Personalities created by his ability. Alex Jones, "Power of Strength and Goju Sawaki", 27 Oct 2013 - Q: I choose my Goju Sawaki to perform Metsubushi.
My opponent has 2 possible choices to play for his next battle actions:
a. He has a Retired Sensei in play to boost up his personalities force. b. He has a personality which can perform a Ranged Attack.
My question is: Does Metsubushi require my opponent to take a battle action that will target the performer of Metsubushi as in (b) or can he simply do (a) and ignore Metsubushi?
Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Ninja: Ranged 4 Attack. TheNEXT TIME this battle the enemy leader takes a Battle action, if it can legally target the Ninja, it must target him.
A: Metsubushi only forces the player to target your Personality if that Personality is a legal target, it does not force him to take an action which for which that Personality is a legal target. If he has an ability that cannot target your Personality, he may take it, and it will use up Metsubushi's requirement. Jon Palmer, "Metsubushi + next battle action", 16 Feb 2013 - Q: If I use Sly deceiver to copy Ninube Shiho's ability to Goju Genin (the Goju Sawaki spawn), will the cost condition prevent him from performing the action since he cannot be included in decks?
A: Yes, the cost will prevent a created Ninja from Goju Sawaki's ability from performing a copy of Shiho's action.
However, not for the exact reasons you think, I should be clear. The text "May not be included in decks" is a construction limitation, so that you realize it is a proxy-card and not a card with which you can build your deck. But the fact is that any sort of representation can be used for a created card, from a penny to a slip of paper. That is why the rule exists that if a created card ever leaves play, it is removed from the game. And it is that rule which prevents the cost being paid.
