Rules Q&A
- Q: Okay, this probably was asked before, but I want to be sure...
Can I use the reaction of the Golden Obi of The Sun Goddess to avoid the destruction of the personality I sacrified with To Do What We Must ?
The destruction of the personality is a cost, but the Golden Obi does not prevent the destruction... well, actually it does, but the word "prevent" is not explicitly written on the card, it is written that the obi is "destroyed instead", is it the same ?
A: Yes, it's the same. The Golden Obi negates the destruction, and in doing so will prevent the cost from being paid and cancel the action unless you go ahead and destroy the Personality anyway. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 March 2003", 1 Apr 2003 - Q: The problem is, if it's an effect, not a cost, you can use cards like The Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess and Kisada's Fist to negate the destruction of your personality, without the other effects being cancelled, as they are with TDDWM, for example.
A: Is that a problem, or just a good combo? Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 September 2002", 11 Sep 2002 - Q: 2) Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess: Unique Only a Personality with over 2 Personal Honor can attach the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess. Battle: Once per battle, bow an opposing Shadowlands card. Reaction: When this Personality would be destroyed, destroy the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess instead.
May I use the Reaction during battle resolution?
A: If your Personality is destroyed, yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 February 2002", 22 Feb 2002 - Q: Just a quick question. Are all attached cards destroyed when the Golden Obi is triggered. For example a personality with the Obi and a Dragon's Claw Katana dies during resolution. Does he or she lose the Dragon's Claw and just the personality survives or is the destruction considered to have not happened? Same question with followers.
A: The Obi destroys itself to negate the destruction of the Personality. If only the Personality was being destroyed (say, due to Kolat Assassin or losing a duel), this will keep every card attached to her safe. If the entire unit was being destroyed (like with To Do What We Must, or from losing a battle), all the other cards still die. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 January 2002", 29 Jan 2002 - Q: 2. You destroy two personalities are destroyed in battle. One wears the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess, and lives again. You gain. A) 2 Honor. B) 4 honor (only destroyed the Obi), C) 6 honor (not your fault they came back.
A: The Obi self-destructs before resolution destroys it and the Personality's destruction is negated. 2 Honor. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 November 2001", 8 Nov 2001 - Q: Ok, some more questions came up during playtest of a couple of new decks:
1) Does Kakita Rensei's ability prevent someone from using the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess from saving them from a Duel (do they die 'during' the duel)?
A: Death happens during resolution, which is still during the duel. Rensei will prohibit the Golden Obi. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: If a personality with 3 personal honor has been dishonored, can they attach the Golden Obi of the Sun Goddess?
A: Nope. The Golden Obi looks at current personal honor, not printed or anything like that. A normally pure personality who happens to be in dire straits at the moment cannot grab the Golden Obi. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for", 19 Jul 2001
