Rules Q&A
- Q: Are spells performed by the shugenja they are attached to and can Kakita Munemori cancel Hanabi?
A: Yes [H&E rulesheet], and yes (unless the caster is both Shugenja and Courtier). Jeff Alexander, "post for 16 May 2003", 21 May 2003 - Q: Example : We are under In Time of War and I have 15 honor. I play "Even More Beautiful Hanabi" to Gain 8 Honor. My honor total is raised by Five, to 20. Correct ? My opponent Deeds me. Being kind of stupid, I use my Fantastic Gardens and Lose 2 Honor. Since I had already three "excess honor", I would in fact stay at my current Honor total, 20, -with one "excess honor" still ? Correct ?
A: Correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 September 2002", 6 Sep 2002 - Q: Since the last Herald was released before Broken Blades, do Hanabi and Shousa become legal when Broken Blades becomes legal or is it 30 days after the release of the Herald?
A: Promo cards become legal along with the next full set that becomes legal. Hanabi, etc. can be used when Broken Blades can. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 September 2002", 4 Sep 2002 - Q: I have got some french promos, namely 'Hanabi','Duelliste redoute' and 'Pas un pas de plus', and am wondering about their legality...
Are they printed in English (or will be)?
A: There's a good chance. Jeff Alexander, "post for 14 May 2002", 15 May 2002 - Q: This came up in a game and I wanted to be sure it was legal. I used Hanabi to gain 4 honor. My opponent reacted with Rhetoric to gain the honor instead. I had a Deeds and Words in play and I used it to reduce the honor gain from Hanabi to 0.
Is this legal? Did the play prevent my opponent from stealing my honor? Thanks in advance.
A: Nope, not legal.
Rhetoric's trigger is right before the gain or loss occurs, during the effects. However, Deeds and Words' trigger is well before that, "Before the resolution of an action". So, when the other player plays Rhetoric, the time has passed when you could've reacted with Deeds and Words and it's too late (though maybe you were playing an older copy of D&W, where the trigger was the same as Rhetoric's, making your cheatery slightly more forgiveable ).
