Rulings
- Q: Can I use Hantei the 38th to stop a samurai from committing seppuku to reduce an honor loss? Seppuku is a Political action, right? A: Not right. There's a subtle distinction that the rulebook's definition of "Political action" overlooks: if an effect isn't an action to begin with, it can't be a "Political action". The Imperial Herald, Issue 10, p. 11
Rules Q&A
- Q: There must be something i'm not correctly understanding about the rule that says "you cannot bring a unique card into play if a unique card with the same name is already in play". A few month ago, i asked Jeff the following question : If "Hantei the 38th" is given the monk trait, then attaches Shiryo No Tetsuya, thus becoming "Hantei the 39th", is it possible to bring "Hantei the 39th" into play, as it is unique, and there's already a unique card with the same name in play? If i remember correctly, Zen answered "no", and Jeff "yes" (so i assume "yes" is the final answer), but none offered explanation, so i'm still wondering why ?
A: I've never been a fan of the fact that numbers in Experience levels and card titles can be changed by things like Shiryo no Tetsuya, but apparently I'm in the minority among the Rules Team on that issue. Hantei the 38th really would block the "real" 39th from entering play in this situation. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 January 2003", 29 Jan 2003 - Q: Hantei Genji and Hantei the 38th both have additional costs that can involve discarding the favor. Can Ide Tadaji use his reaction to negate the paying of that cost?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Ide Tadaji vs. Hantei Genji and Hantei the 38th", 24 Jun 2007
