Rules Q&A
- Q: Scenario:
I have Hasaiki no Oni.
I use Ambush and target an opponent's Personality with my Hasaiki no Oni or another of my Personality.
After the Battle, Hasaiki no Oni or my other Personality will bow from the battle created by Ambush.
Question:
Could I use the first ability of Hasaiki no Oni to prevent him from bowing from the battle created by the Ambush card?

A: Bowing as an attacker at the resolution of a battle is a rulebook effect, not an effect from the card Ambush. So Hasaiki won't stop you from bowing. Jon Palmer, "Ambush - Is bowing after battle, also part of effect?", 1 Dec 2014 - Q: The action is not specifically listing the same type of target so should it still fall into this ruling?
A: Yes.
This ruling has been stable for a while. Don't expect it to change. Zen Faulkes, "RE: Hasaiki no Oni targeting requirements", 5 May 2006 - Q: I cannot copy the X trait from an X card if it does not have the X trait, (copying the oni trait from Hasaiki no Oni is not possible).
A: Yes, it is. Jeff Alexander, "Keywords and implied traits again.", 9 Jun 2005 - Q: For Hasaiki no Oni, do you need two seperate targets for the Battle action?
A: Yes.
#2. Zen Faulkes, "Questions Regarding the new Shadowlands Oni", 11 Apr 2005 - Q: Hasaiki no Oni
Battle: Once per battle, target an opposing Personality and a legal target for a ranged attack from this card. Bow the first target. Produce a ranged attack against the second with strength equal to the first target's Force.
A bit of clarification please. The phrase "from this card" applies to what? "This card" is the oni himself, or the opposing personality with the ranged attack?
Also, the strength of the ranged attack is really equal to the force of the first target, or the force of the ranged attack of the first target?
A: "This card" is the Oni.
The ability bows Target A and then has the Oni produce a Ranged Attack against Target B with a Strength equal to the Force of Target A. Martin Lund, "Hasaiki no Oni & his bowing of ranged attack persos", 3 Apr 2005
