Rules Q&A
- Q: I am attacking, and my army contains Utaku Yu-Pan exp and Utaku Tayoi. My opponent is defending his final province with a single non-Naval personality, who has no Naval followers attached. Yu-Pan has the Heavenly Kobune of Suitengu attached, and thus has Naval. For my Naval action, I can choose to use Yu-Pan's printed ability, bowing Yu-Pan as the cost, to move the opposing personality home. For my Naval action, can I bow Tayoi as the cost of Yu-Pan's ability?
A: The question is really, "Who performs Utaku Yu-Pan's ability?"
See performance criteria at http://rules.l5r.com/Glossary_P-Q#Perform.
Both Utaku Yu-Pan and Utaku Tayoi perform the ability in this case. So it doesn't matter which has the Naval trait. Zen Faulkes, "Utaku Yu-Pan & Naval", 6 Aug 2007 - Q: According to this post Zen made http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=58805 Naval units should be assigned during infantry, yet I don't see anywhere within the comprehensive rulings or the SE basic rulebook that prevents naval units from assigning during Cavalry Maneuvers (eg. Moto Chagatai exp4 with the Heavenly Kobune of Suitengu attached).
Is there something I missed while reading that prevents Naval Cavalry units from assigning during the Cavalry maneuvers segment?
A: That's not really what the original question asked, as far as I can tell.
The default for all cards is Infantry. If it's a Naval card with the Cavalry trait, then yes, it can assign as Cavalry. But the presence of the Naval keyword has nothing to do with that assignment. Zen Faulkes, "Naval Units Clarification", 30 Jun 2007
