Rules Q&A
- Q: Question: if a card has a Reaction which is triggered "after" it is destroyed [examples: Hero's Banner, Toturi Kurako], and the card is bowed when it is destroyed, can the Reaction be used?
A: Cards that are not in play are neither bowed nor unbowed. Ergo, cards with an "after this card is destroyed" Reaction won't normally be bowed when you would take their Reaction. Martin Lund, "Rules for 27 November 2004", 30 Nov 2004 - Q: 4.) Resolve Effects Effects could be one or many. Each effect has a before/ when/after for it.
Example Before: Hidden City: Reaction: *Before* one of your Personalities is *destroyed by another player's action* during an Action Phase, straighten Hidden City to negate the destruction.
Example When: House of the First Stone: Reaction: Bow the House *when a unit is being sent home bowed* from a battle by an action to negate the bowing.
Example After: Hero's Banner: Reaction: Once per turn, *after Hero's Banner is destroyed* while in an army, return it to your hand and reduce its Gold cost to 0 until the battle ends.
After 4. When that process ends, you can take Actions that happen "after resolving" that Action.
Example: Acolytes of Air: Elemental Reaction: *After* a ranged attack *action resolves* whose effects targeted a card in this army, straighten Acolytes of Air.
A: That's one very solid timeline, my friend. I hope we see something similar as a reference in the next rulebook, or maybe a volume of the FAQ. Martin Lund, "Rules for 25 June 2004", 28 Jun 2004 - Q: Let's say that, with Umasu Sensei, I have a 3 force peep with no followers. I give him a Hero's Banner. Later on, I give him a follower. Would he be 4 force or 3?
Also, let's say I put Hero's Banner on a 3 force peep who has a follower. Then, later on he loses his follower. Is he 4 force or 3?
A: If the suppression ends or begins, recalculate if the force bonus is fram attached cards, because those are checked continuously. Zen Faulkes, "Umasu Items and Focus, and Political Outcast in Shadowlands", 20 Feb 2005
