Rules Q&A
- Q: Suitengu's Surge has the sentence, "Remove the unit from the game. Return it to the game, with all attached cards and tokens, before the beginning of the next turn."
Fury of the Hida has the sentence, "Remove the Followers from the game at the end of the turn if you are not a Crab Clan player."
Is not the ... before the beginning of the next turn ... and .... the end of the turn.... the same for timing's sake?
A: "Effects that occur between phases or segments resolve in the order of the phase or segment they refer to. E.g., an effect occuring "after the Events Phase" resolves before one occuring "before the Action Phase." [ZF, 10 August 2001]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Timing")
Suitengu's Surge will prevent Fury of the Hida from removing the follower tokens from the game, because it returns the unit to play after Fury of the Hida tries and fails to remove the tokens from the game. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 November 2004", 2 Dec 2004 - Q: Greetings. I'd like to ask if You can bring Hida into play with Duty of the Crab even if you do not meet the conditions of bringing him into play
Hida: http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=3066,#hashid=edebaca98f8bfe33a16708ab04c1ef3a,#cardcount=1
Duty of the Crab: http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=8036,#hashid=1483bda742191f186a8e1de832c2ff12,#cardcount=0
Thanks!
A: The "normal" means by which a Personality enters play is as a rulebook effect during the Dynasty Phase.
Anything else is not "entering play normally." Alex Jones, "Hida & Duty of the Crab", 2 Sep 2013 - Q: Hi
Have a little problem with understanding rules.
In some cards type - some actions it is sad ex. move enemy unit, this moveing can't be negeted. ex. Shinjo Kinto http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=6906,#hashid=fa24140f53cb6d27fa12c892cef37bcd,#cardcount=0 does this meen that if I have reconneissans the enemy player can't move him back to this batelfild by card's like back to the front http://imperialassembly.com/oracle/#cardid=662,#hashid=bb543407f3d6f9e894a273a9258abf45,#cardcount=0 or it just mean that the oposit player cannot make reactions that neget movment off his units? Or like with Hida defenders that for ex. they wer on batelfied, then they wer send back home by some battle action, then I perform some action that bows my enemys personality, Can I use the hida,s reaction rule even if they were send home?
And one more Q; does the personality with keyword SCOUT and follower who doesn't have the Scout keyword stil counts as e scout unit or is this the same like with cavalry? I need this for purpose for Hidden Falls Dojo recon action - can I move Scout personality with follower that doesn't have this scout keyword?
Best Regards
A: Shinjo Kinto's "this movement will not be negated" means that the sending home cannot be negated, such as by a card like Know No Fear. The Personality can move back into the battle. To prevent him from moving back in, it would need to be worded like Nijugun or Unnatural Flood.
Hida Defenders only cares if the Defenders opposed the Personality at the current battle, not if they're currently opposing the Personality. Therefore you may take their reaction in the situation you described.
Hidden Falls Dojo only cares about your Scout Personalities. Their followers' traits are irrelevant; you may assign the units as long as the Personalities are scouts. Please note that Hidden Falls Dojo assigns Personalities; it does not move them. Jon Palmer, "Moving", 9 Apr 2012 - Q: I have a Unique personality in play (Hida Bob) and another personality wearing an Armor of the Heavens (Kakita Joe). The opponent targets Hida bob, and I play Imperial Command to redirect his action to Kakita Joe. Can I gain 2 honor with the armor (as it says when the other [player] targets).
A: (Change made in brackets, to what I believe was a typo in your question)
Yes, you may react with Armor of the Heavens. The other player is still considered to be doing the targeting, even though you changed his choice.
Targeting: "A "change to targeting" is anything that changes the target. Choosing a target is different from, and comes before, the actual targeting. Specifically, if an effect interferes with an action so that another player chooses one of the action’s final targets, the player who originally would have chosen the targeting is still the one who targets the final target." Brook Cunningham, "Armor of the Heavens and Imperial Command", 22 May 2010 - Q: Hi. Kozan Force 7 is in an army with a tsi blade attached +2 force and has +1 force from Barracks of the Dammed and has had the crab strength played on him +4 force (total 14)
He is destroyed and uses his reaction. What force does he contribute to the army after he is dead?
Thanks for your time, Adrian.
A: 11. He doesn't have the Tsi blade attached, so he loses that bonus, and he isn't in play, so he loses the Barracks bonus. Chris Fuchs, "What force does Hida kazan contribute?", 30 Oct 2007 - Q: Hello all.
I couldn't find anything in the rules about this:
Suppose that I have an Item attached to one of my personalities. Let's say that I have a Daruma on a Hida guy. I also have Obsidian Dragon out. Obsidian Dragon states that "He can not attach items or followers". Since transferring is not attaching, can I transfer Daruma from the Hida guy to the Obsidian dragon, bypassing his non-attachment restriction?
Does the same thing work (if it works) with followers that have an honor requirement that the guy who are about to be transferred does not meet (for instance Brothers in arms to a dishonored personality?)
Thanks for the time.
Edit: Page 32 of the new rulebook states that you can only share attachments with guys that can legally equip it. So I think that this pretty much covers my question. However, I would like an official answer, even to something that obvious. So can I transfer an item to Obsidian Dragon?
A: No, for stated reasons. Zen Faulkes, "Transferring Items and Followers", 30 Jul 2007 - Q: [OBH] Defensive Duty + Hida - as a crab player i play the combo to put Hida to the defensive army - After battle will Hida be discarded?
A: Yes. Though Defensive Duty likely assumes the Personality will be in the Province for the discard effect, it does not specify this, so the Personality will be discarded from wherever it is after the battle ends (unless RFG'd).
(Replying to a player: "Follow up - if the defensive army wins at resolution he becomes discarded. but if the defensive army loses - he becomes honorable dead. right?") Yes. In scenario 2, he's already in the discard as honorable dead, so "discarding" him will just fail; it won't "undo" his dead status. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 17 Jun 2026 - Q: Yup. I use it to get an early Hida into play.
A: "Will not enter play normally"; WILL enter play ABSURDLY. ;D Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 23 Jul 2024
