Rules Q&A
- Q: I have Fu Leng's Guidance in play and attack into a Crab player. He defends with an army that includes Hida Ikarukani. I destroy Hida Ikarukani with some action. Do I get to react with the Guidance before he can use Ikarukani's trait? If so, does Ikarukani's trait kick in, and must my opponent destroy a personality?
Hida Ikarukani After the resolution of an action that destroyed Ikarukani while he was at a battlefield: The enemy leader chooses and destroys one of his unbowed Personalities at the current battlefield.
Fu Leng's Guidance Reaction: After the resolution of an action that destroyed another player's Personality during a battle, if you are a Spider Clan player, discard this card: Bring him into play, ignoring Gold cost and Honor Requirement, in your current army. Permanently give him Shadowlands and Undead.
Thanks,
A: Hida Ikarukani has a trait.
Fu Leng's Guidance has a Reaction.
Traits always go before Reactions (http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Timing#Resolvin ... _conflicts). Zen Faulkes, "Hida Ikarukani and Fu Leng's Guidance", 26 Jun 2011 - Q: I have a Hida Ikarukani at the battlefield. My opponent has 2 personalities with 5 force and no followers, opposing Ikarukani. I play Calm Before Death. I reduce both opposing personalities force by 7, killing one of them, then i kill the other one with ikarukani since his trait reacts to Calm Before Death resolving completely? Am i correct?
A: 96% correct. With only one Personality left, after your Calm Before Death has resolved, Ikarukani's trait forces your opponent to choose his only remaining Personality (provided he's unbowed; if he's not, he's "ducked" the destruction) and then Ikarukani's trait destroys him. Brook Cunningham, "Hida Ikarukani and Calm Before Death", 25 Jul 2010 - Q: If I have Hida Ikraukani attacking at a province and the opponent has personalities there opposing him, if I use Hida's Guidance on the province where Hida Ikarukani is attacking, as a result of his destruction from Hida's Guidance would my opponent have to destroy one of his personalities before the battle ended due to the wording on Hida's Guidance?
A: No, because the battle ends first. You have to actually do the effect before you get to "after" its resolution. Zen Faulkes, "Hida Ikarukani and Hida's Guidance", 9 Jan 2010
