Rules Q&A
- Q: May Hida Ishi be targeted with Gozoku Sensei? Thus making him unable tu unbow?
A: "Ishi may not be bowed by other players' card effects."
You can target him with Gozoku Sensei. It won't bow him. It will put a 6-gold Price on him straightening ever again until you next use the Favor (or a Favor substitute). Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 August 2004", 2 Sep 2004 - Q: If I have one Ishi in play along with several other personalities and my opp. uses Maru to make me bow one of my many personalities can I target Ishi?
A: No.
"If a card effects forces you to make a decision, you may not choose an option that is known in advance will fail. You may, however, immediately respond with a voluntary effect that negates or cancels the action or effect you chose. [Summary of other rulings]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Decisions") Martin Lund, "Rules for 17 May 2004", 19 May 2004 - Q: 1. Your opponent bows Shosuro Maru for her ability. Can you target Hida Ishi with the effect and have it negated (automatically)?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 16 Feb. 204", 18 Feb 2004 - Q: Can I select Ishi as one of the guys who gets bowed but have him end up not being bowed because of his trait?
A: Yes. Rules Archive, Targeting (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings#Target). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 1 July 2003", 2 Jul 2003 - Q: When Hida Ishi is targeted with a Block Supply Line, What happens? Does he goes home without bowing? Can`t be targeted? Nothing happens?
A: He goes home without bowing. The rest of the cards in his unit still bow. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 January 2003", 16 Jan 2003 - Q: If I have Hida Ishi opposed by enough units so he gets his +2/+2 what happens when I target him with Beserker Rage. Does his force go to
a) 6 force( a net gain of 1) the +2 force bonus he gets fizzels away
or
b) 8 force (Double his printed force to 6 and then add the +2/+2 bonus afterwards)
A: GE rulebook, p. 32: "It is possible to set a card's value directly to a particular number. Do not apply any bonuses or penalties already in effect to this new number -- in essence, they're already part of it. *Do* apply any later changes as you normally would."
Ishi's Force would become 6. That 6 is considered to contain the +2F from Ishi's trait. If the number of units in both armies change enough, he would lose that +2F bonus (and his +2C, which does not matter for this example) and his current Force would then be 4. Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 December 2002", 13 Dec 2002 - Q: Can I choose Hida Ishi to bow for Yogo Asami's ability, and then have the bowing negated by Ishi's trait?
A: Yes, indeed!
