Rules Q&A
- Q: The Great bear says:
This card is considered Hida Kisada for deck construction and checking the Unique restriction
If the two Kisada cards are distinct, which Kisada is it referring?
A: Due to a lack of specifics in the trait, technically both. Perhaps that will be changed at some future date, perhaps not... Brook Cunningham, "Uniqueness - The Great Bear / Hotako and Hotako exp 3", 19 Apr 2012 - Q: So Daigotsu Kanpeki is a personality in Kolat Edition (also upcoming, now pre-released emperor edition)
Daigotsu Kanpeki is also a holding from samurai edition. So a war of honor spider deck (or any sort of open or extended pre-EE legality play) cannot include the holding and the person in a deck at the same time because they are not explicitly different experienced levels? (obviously they can't be in play at the same time)
(I guess this also applies to 'the great bear' holding, since it doesn't specify an experience level either. It even makes sense story wise to be in the same deck as Hida Kisada since the great bear trained the little bear. I don't own that card so I care less though, but I suspect it should be mentioned for those searching for a Kisada vs. Kisada ruling.)
edit: woah, he does have the experienced keyword. How have I looked at him so many times and not noticed that. what a dumb question on my part.
A: If the cards have the same title and the same experience level, they may not be included in the same deck if both are Unique, per the deck construction rules. However, you might note that Daigotsu Kanpeki the Personality has the Experienced keyword. Jon Palmer, "Daigotsu Kanpeki and Daigotsu Kanpeki (no experience)", 21 Feb 2012 - Q: Hida Kisada (EE) has a battle action where he targets a card with less force and destroys it. So, for example, let's say he's facing a 5f personality (who is irrelevant) with a +3f weapon attached, making the personality a total of 8f.. He cannot target the personality 'card' in this unit with his battle action, because the personality card is calculated at being 8f, as it has the +3f weapon attached, correct?
Hida Kisada (EE): Crab Clan • Clan Champion • Samurai • Kensai • Siege • Tactician • Loyal • Unique • Little Bear Reaction: When another player's Battle action would target Kisada: He outmaneuvers it. Choose another Personality you control at Kisada's location. The action targets the Personality instead, if legal. Battle: Target an enemy card with lower Force: Destroy it.
A: Correct. Attachments that add directly to the Personality's force are taken into consideration for Kisada's destruction effect, so he could not destroy a 5F Personality with a +3F weapon (a situation that incidentally came up at my last starter release event). Jon Palmer, "Hida Kisada (EE) and 'card'.", 21 Feb 2012 - Q: If Hida Kisada has been hit with a range attack at a battlefield with Koshin Keep's ability is active and it didn't kill him the Mantis player gets to take another shot. Can the Crab player use Hida Kisada reaction to target someone else?
I'm not sure what the correct answer is because normally it should work but Koshin Keep restricts the Mantis player target and I don't know if that same restriction applys to the Crab player.
A: Targets must remain legal when you use a retargeting effect; due to the text on Koshin Keep Kisada is the only legal target for subsequent ranged attacks in your scenario. Jon Palmer, "Hida Kisada and Koshin Keep", 9 Jan 2012 - Q: [legacy] does Big Kisada and Little Bear Kisada both count as "Kisada" for unique purposes? (Both are called Hida Kisada with no subtitles)
A: There is a list of cards in the OBH (and AEG for that matter) Legacy Rules that are considered different cards despite having the same title. The two different Hida Kisadas are on this list. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 30 Mar 2025
