Rules Q&A
- Q: Hida Osote: After the first time each turn another player's action targets your Crab Clan Personality at Osote's location: The player discards a card after the action ends.
Yoritomo Taroa: Open: Pay 2 Gold: Choose a player. He targets one of his unbowed Personalities or Holdings or a card in his hand. If the targeted card is in his hand, discard it. Otherwise, bow it.
IF i use Taroa's ability to target my opponent and they choose a personality to bow do I have to discard a card due to Osotoe's reaction?
A: Yes, because your action targeted his Personality at Osote's location. Alex Jones, "Hida Osote Vs. Yoritomo Taroa", 30 Sep 2012 - Q: My question is, does the Osote trait trigger in this case?
A: No, Osote's trait will not trigger.
You'll note the trigger of Ryoshun's Guidance, "When another player's action would target one of your cards,". The key word in this trigger is When.
According to the rules on Timing and "When" triggers: "2. Effects that alter a player’s choice, such as targeting or assignment, are written as “when (the player) would.” The timing of such a "when... would" effect occurs later than the player indicates his or her initial choice, but earlier than the point at which the targeting (or other outcome of the choice) actually happens."
As such, if your opponent would redirect the action's targeting to a non-Crab Clan Personality, you have not targeted a Crab Clan Personality, so Osote's trait cannot trigger. Ben Higgins, "Ryoshun's Guidance vs. Hida Osote", 23 Aug 2012 - Q: If in a game with more than 2 players, if I have Hida Osote out, and both players target one of my personalities at his location do they both discard a card once per turn, or just the first player to target my personality
A: Only the first one. Osote's trigger is the first time each turn another player's action targets your Crab Clan Personality at Osote's location, not the first time per player. Jon Palmer, "Hida Osote and multiplayer games", 23 Jun 2012 - Q: I attack my opponent with Hida Osote in the army. My opponent kills him and discard a card due to his trait. I bring another Osote into play at the battlefield (with Duty of the Crab for example). If my opponent targets a Crab, does he have to discard another card due to the trait of the second Osote?
Hida Osote's trait : After the first time each turn another player's action targets your Crab Clan Personality at Osote's location: The player discards a card after the action ends.
Thanks
A: Your opponent must discard another card.
This isn't "the first time each turn another player's action targets your Crab Clan Personality", but it is the first time that Personality is "at Osote's location".
