Rules Q&A
- Q: My opponent plays a Dai Tsuchi in Hida Tenshu. I can use overconfidence on him at this moment???
A: Yes. He's gaining a Force Bonus (+3) greater than his printed Chi (1). Martin Lund, "Rules for 14 May 2004", 17 May 2004 - Q: Hida Tenshu Test of Mights Akodo Fumio. Fumio focuses. Tenshu focuses. Fumio strikes, and uses his reaction to copy Tenshu's force bonus from his focus, which then lasts until the end of the battle.
A: Minor point: Fumio is using his Reaction too late in your example. He has to do it as soon as the bonus is gained.
Major point: Focusing is not an action. Fumio can only copy bonuses caused by actions. [card text] Fumio can only copy bonuses during duels when they come from Reactions, such as Bend Like a Reed. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 October 2002", 29 Oct 2002 - Q: I'm writing this to check if Poisoned Weapon can beat a Kharmic Strike in the right situation.
Specifically, I'm thinking that a 6 Chi Fushiki challenges 1 Chi Hida Tenshu. Tenshu focuses a Kharmic Strike and then Fushiki strikes. The duel will be tie because of Kharmic Strike, but each player still has an opportunity to play reactons before the duel resolves. Fushiki's player drops a Poisoned Weapon and Tenshu-chan dies immediately. Because Tenshu is dead, the duel does not resolve and Fushiki lives to smite another day.
I'm pretty sure that is a kosher play, but it would be nice to have confirmation.
A: It's legal. The MRP of Kharmic Strike says the duel will result in a tie during resolution. It specifically does NOT end the duel immediately, allowing Reactions such as Poisoned Weapon to be taken and have effect. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 Oct. 2002", 8 Oct 2002 - Q: Erk. Math analysis problem: Hida Tenshu (6F) with the 8F Celestial Sword (14F) above gets the penalty from Berserker Rage (replaced at 12F). ISOTF hits. When the Celestial Sword bonus goes away, does the Berserker Rage remain a 'penalty' and thus stay, or does it revert to a bonus and thus piffle?
A: Good catch. It remains a penalty. Tenshu's total Force will drop from 12F to 4F because an 8F bonus is turning into a 0F bonus. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 September 2002", 25 Sep 2002 - Q: Take the following scenario:
I have 3x Hida Koun and 1x Hida Tenshu
I declare an attack and send Tenshu to an opposing province, the Hida Kouns do nothing. Opponent defends with sufficient force to stop Tenshu and he's killed during resolution. I play Fight til the Morning Sun (or whatever it's called) to bow the defenders.
In the next province I then play Accesible Terrain, now, can I move the Hida Kouns into that province to take it out? Or, do those players NEED to have participated in the attack sequence to some degree?
A: You may move them in. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 January 2002", 22 Jan 2002
