Rules Q&A
- Q: What happens exactly when Hitomi Daisetsu casts a Kiho while Kansen Haunting is in effect?
A: "May not straighten" (Kansen Haunting text) means just that: he can't.
Zen Fauleks! * Crab Clan Scholar * Unaligned Deputy Rules Guy Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 July 2004", 18 Jul 2004 - Q: My opponent has a Hitomi Daisetsu and a Togashi Kansuke as the only units in his army. He plays Wedge on Kansuke. I play Overwhelmed. What can/must he do?? He can't send both of them home becuase he can't target his Kansuke. He can't destroy Kansuke because he can't target him.
A) He sends home Daisetsu but leaves Kansuke. B) He does nothing at all.
B seems like the correct answer to me, but I'm not sure.
A: It used to be that you would send Daisetsu home, since that's the only option that will do anything but fail completely.
However, the MRP in Diamond says, "He must choose to destroy a Personality if he cannot send two units home." I can't argue with explicit card text.
So you must choose the destroy option, which fails.
Unless Jeff says otherwise, you're right. It'll be answer B - do nothing. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 June 2004", 10 Jun 2004 - Q: My opponent casts Blessings of the Dragon on a dishonored Hitomi Daisetsu and I cast Force of Will on it switching his PH with his Chi. Does Daisetsu die, and if so how much honor does my opponent lose, 0, 2 or 4?
A: The honor lose from dying dishonorably is based on PRINTED Personal Honor. Daisetsu's printed Personal Honor is 2. Your opponent would lose 2. Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 May 2004", 24 May 2004 - Q: Hitomi Daisetsu, with Reichin's Helm attached, casts Chasing Osano-Wo on himself.
I *think* the timing is: Bow, Reichin's Trait, Chasing's Effects; so Daisetsu is 2F Base, +1F Reichin (printed), +1F Reichin's Trait, +6F Chasing (Daisetsu's 4F + 2PH).
A: Yup. Reichin's Helm triggers after all costs are paid and targets chosen, but before any Effects are produced. Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 April 2004", 22 Apr 2004 - Q: 2. I have a Hitomi Daisetsu attacking province A and a Hitomi Daisetsu attacking Province B. We are resolving the province A battle..can Daisatsu at Province B cast Kihos into that battle? I checked the rule of relevance and it seems to fulfill all the requirements so I don't see why not...but this was disagreed.
A: There is no grounds to disagree upon. So long as the Kiho affects a card or token at the current battle or the battle itself or it creates / moves a card or token in the current battle, you can cast it from any place in play - home, another battle, Mars, etc. Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 April 2004", 4 Apr 2004 - Q: If Hitomi Daisetsu bows to cast a Flee the Darkness and the other player uses Fall on Your Knees. Daisetsu can still use his reaction to straighten?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 24 March 2004", 26 Mar 2004 - Q: If Hitomi Daisetsu casts Chasing Osano Wo on himself and I wish to play Overconfidence in response, would it be legal for me to pass on my opportunity to play a reaction, wait for my opponent to utilize Daisetsu's reaction, and then play the Overconfidence?
A: It's not only legal, it's mandatory that you wait. You CAN'T do it in the other order. Costs are paid before effects happen in L5R, so a Reaction to a cost (Daisetsu) must come before a Reaction to an effect (Overconfidence). Jeff Alexander, "rules for 5 Feb. 2004", 6 Feb 2004 - Q: I have Hitomi Daisetsu and Mirumoto Takige in play. My Hitomi Daisetsu has been dishonored. If an effect kills Daisetsu and I decide to destroy Takige in his place, will I gain 3 honor or will Daisetsu be rehonored? (Is he involved in the honor gain?)
A: Gain 3. Zen Faulkes, "Takige and a Dishonorable Personality", 23 Mar 2005
