Rules Q&A
- Q: Regarding your ruling on Hitomi Echiko & the Snow Crane Tattoo (in your post on 21 October 2002) I assume you meant to say that if Echiko has bowed to use her ability during a duel and the Snow Crane Tattoo is ON HER that the tattoo could not be used.
A: Correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 October 2002", 23 Oct 2002 - Q: 2) If I bow Hitomi Echiko to ditch the opponent's last focused card, then, once the duel resolves, can I still use the Snow Crane Tattoo reaction to boost her focus card? Can she still Bend Like A Reed?
A: No and no -- Snow Crane Tattoo because it's an ability on a bowed card, Bend Like a Reed because that would target one of your own bowed Personalities. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 October 2002", 22 Oct 2002 - Q: Hitomi Echiko "Reaction: When Echiko is in a duel, bow her instead of focusing to discard the last card focused by the opposing Personality."
Dark Allies rulebook, p.55 "Being bowed does not affect ... Chi"
Does this mean that the following play is legal? Echiko enters a duel with a Personality who has lower Chi. The opposing Personality focuses. Echiko bows and uses her Reaction to discard the opponent's focused card. Then, Echiko strikes and wins the duel (barring some nefarious Reaction from the opponent).
A: Once Echiko bows, your option to focus or strike is over and play returns to your opponent. You can't focus and strike at the same time -- that includes Reactions taken "instead of" focusing. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 August 2002", 27 Aug 2002 - Q: Hitomi Echiko
A: Targeted by rule #4. Targets the thing it affects: your opponent's last focus card. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 August 2002", 23 Aug 2002
