Rules Q&A
- Q: Could you put the personality face-up at the holy site?
A: No; that would cause the Province to hold a Dynasty card, which Holy Site prevents by its "does not" wording (see http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_D#Do_not and http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Duratio ... 22_effects). Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site & Never stand alone", 7 Dec 2009 - Q: When A Ruling is kicked "upstairs", who does it go to?
This ruling directly contradicts AkodoGilador's ruling and in retrospect it answers my question.
A: "Can I use Holy Site to negate the trait of a holding's Gold Production?"
You asked if Holy Site could negate a holding's gold production. The original question concerned the legality of using Holy Site's reaction in response to the use of a holding's trait to produce gold.
You can react, but it'll do nothing. Alex Jones, "Holy Site Question", 2 Sep 2009 - Q: Re: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=77927&p=1021868&hilit=Holy+Site#p1021868
Can I use Holy Site to negate the trait of a holding's Gold Production?
A: Holy Site's reaction negates its province's destruction. It does not negate anything else. Alex Jones, "Holy Site Question", 2 Sep 2009 - Q: Because Border Keep does not target, am I correct in assuming that you may use holy site in reaction to attempting to resolve either of the 'mulligan' abilities on Border Keep, destroy holy site, refill that province face-down, and then choose that face-down card in addition to any others with the Border Keep abililty?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site", 30 Jul 2009 - Q: (If) gold production is a trait, I could blow up my holy site as a reaction to any player producing gold for any reason?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site", 30 Jul 2009 - Q: (C)an Holy Site react to itself?
A: No. It has a continuous trait, and continuous traits don't resolve. Only triggered traits resolve.
We'll be making this clearer in the Comprehensive Rules soon. Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site", 29 Jul 2009 - Q: Which rule is the basis for the answer?
A: Celestial Edition rulebook, page 20: "If a province is ever without a card, refill it immediately with a face–down card from the top of your Dynasty deck." Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site and refilling", 25 Jul 2009 - Q: A province has the region Holy Site attached, therefore it doesn't hold dynasty cards, and the region reacts to negate the destruction of the province.
When will the province be refilled? The logical answer would be immediately after the region's destruction, but the rules only cover refilling provinces after a card leaves the province; there's no word about refilling in response to any other situation. (A similar paradox might also occur with Hidden Moon Dojo and discarding effects during the owner's action phase)
SE CR: When a card leaves a province and the province then holds fewer than its maximum number of cards, effects triggered by the card leaving the Province or entering play resolve first (including effects of Events that resolved from that Province). Then, if the Province still holds fewer than its maximum number of cards, it is refilled with a face-down Dynasty card from the top of the Province’s owner’s deck, unless something else has refilled it.
(Note: The CE CR have the same text)
A: Refill immediately unless some effect prevents it. Zen Faulkes, "Holy Site and refilling", 25 Jul 2009
