Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Honor's Lesson Dojo 4G Unique. Reaction: After all players pass consecutively in a battle but before Delayed Terrains (if any) resolve, bow Honor's Lesson Dojo to take one Battle or Open action." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 81
- If the action granted is canceled, another cannot be taken, because canceled actions count for purposes of a player's chance to take an action or pass. [JA, 17 July 2002] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 82
- Erratum: The following cards were incorrectly printed without the Gold Edition symbol. They are legal in the Four Winds Storyline format: Clear Water Village, Construction Crew, Deep Earth Sanctum, Honor's Lesson Dojo, Shackled Oni, Shrine of Reverse Fortunes, Trusted Advisor. Rules Q&A
- Q: HLD is a reaction that enables you to play another battle or open action. Now a reaction does not require Presence or Relevence to be met. So does this mean that HLD effectively allows you to circumvent the Presence and Relevance rules to play an action that you would not ordinarily be able to play?
A: No, it doesn't. No text explicitly overrirdes those rules, so they're still in force. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 24 September 2003", 24 Sep 2003 - Q: Honor's Lesson Dojo: Unique. Reaction: Bow after all players pass consecutively in a battle and before delayed Terrains resolve to perform a Battle or Open action.
Armed and Ready: Reaction: Play at the start of a Resolution Segment to straighten all your Personalities at this battle with a Weapon or an Armor (or both).
My question is, does one have to be played before the other? The rulebook says (from what I was able to find, anyway) that the resolution segment starts as soon as both players pass, so it looks to me like they trigger at the same time. But I'm still not sure, so what's the word?
A: The Resolution Segment doesn't start when all players pass. The Battle Action Segment ends, with Delayed Terrains resolving immediately beforehand (not simultaneously) [FOU rulesheet]. Honor's Lesson Dojo must be used first. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 March 2003", 31 Mar 2003 - Q: A follow up to this question is can [Moto Kumari] use his ability if he is moved into the battle by an action that is used after you use Honors Lesson Dojo??
A: Sure. Why not? Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 November 2002", 9 Nov 2002 - Q: Checked the errata on this and just want make sure.
HLD can be canceled by Fall on your Knees right?
A: Right. Honor's Lesson Dojo is used before Delayed Terrains resolve [card text], which is still during the Battle Action Segment [BB rulesheet]. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 Oct 2002", 7 Oct 2002 - Q: If I'm using Honor's Lesson Dojo and the action I take is canceled do I get to take another action?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 July 2002", 18 Jul 2002 - Q: I have a quick question about A Samurai's Fury. A Samurai's Fury says, "Reaction: Play this card after a Delayed Terrain resolves. Take an Open or Battle action."
Honor's Lesson Dojo says, "Unique. Reaction: Bow after all players pass consecutively in a battle and before delayed terrains resolve to perform one Battle or Open action."
Now, it looks to me like A Samurai's Fury and Honor's Lesson Dojo were intended to work pretty much the same as each other. My question is, do they?
A: They're similar but not identical. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 July 2002", 2 Jul 2002 - Q: I think I already know the answer, but I just wanted to be sure. Regarding Honor's Lesson Dojo:
Unique. Reaction: Bow after all players pass consecutively in a battle and before delayed terrains resolve to perform one Battle or Open action.
This can't be used in a battle with Deadly Ground in play, correct? Since this is still part of the battle, Deadly Ground is still in effect when this card's trigger goes off, right?
A: Right. No HLD during Deadly. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30 April 2002", 1 May 2002 - Q: 5.) If I use Honor's Lesson Dojo after all players have passed, may I use the action to immediately pass again (for example, to pump Patience)?
A: No. The Dojo's effect is to let you take an Open or Battle action. You must do one if able. If you don't, it does not count as passing. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 April 2002", 9 Apr 2002 - Q: Honor's Lesson Dojo Reaction: Bow after all Players pass consecutively in a battle and before delayed terrains resolve to perform one Battle or Open action.
Can Honor's Lesson Dojo be used if there is no Terrain in Play?
A: Yes. It refers to the step wherein Delayed Terrains, in general, resolve. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 April 2002", 9 Apr 2002
